single stage black layed, stripes layed, should i wetsand single stage before clear?
i have the single stage black done but i have alot of orange peel. i also have the huge grey stripes layed. should i wet sand the single stage first to remove orange peel or can i go ahead and clear coat then wet sand and be able to remove the orange peel by smoothig just the clear?

yuck! thats the reason I hate single stage so much, I sprayed a buick in black single stage and it was nothing but orange peel and dry spray. but to answer your question I'd wetsand that all out before clearing.

You need to wetsand. Then apply one more coat of black followed by the clear. If the single stage has orange peel the clear coat will not lay flat on top of it. Since you are painting stripes black base may have been a better choice. Your stripes look sweet!

this was my first paint job. i have no more black. i'm just good with spray paint.so would it be good to wet sand it dull ,then clear. would it bring the shine back.

If you are out of black then lightly sand and clear. I suggested putting another coat on after sanding because to remove the orange peel you might break through the black. Give it a careful sanding and clear. The clear should be easier to spray and will lay out flatter for you.

If you have plenty of paint on it (at least 3 coats) use 600 followed by 1000. If you don't have that much paint on it then just use 1000. It will take you forever to use 1000 but you'll have less chance of breaking through. Don't use anything rougher than 600. Use LOTS of water when sanding. Good Luck!

just sanded the hood. used 600 then to 1000 then to 1500 to make sure i wouldn't have any scratches show thru the clear. but did i go too far using the 1500. i have 98% of the orange peel gone. whats left is so little that it does bother me. you think the clear will hold to the 1500? oh by the way, the hood was the worst. the rest of the is nowhere near as bad.
