Can Anyone Help With My Paint Code?
There, no build shet to be found, but I really want to know the original paint code.
The car is a 1986 Firebird LG4. Looks like a metallic burgundy on silver. I just want to paint the car the metallic burgundy color. I'm going to try and paint it myself, but I don't know how to track down the right code.
Any help is appreciated!

If the car still has a decent paint job on it take it to your local paint supply store (that supplies the body shops in your area). Most of these stores have a camera that they can put against the car and it will give them the color of the paint. It may not be a perfect match but it will be closer than just taking some sample sheets and holding them against the car. Plus you'll have an exact clor that you can match to then if you ever have a bump up that requires paint work.

The paint is extremely faded and sun-damaged, with most of the clear coming off. There may be some spots they could use, but I'm just not sure. I was really hoping to find out the original GM code for reference.
Thanks for the tip. I may end up doing that if I can't find the code.

Not a problem. If they cant use that method you could always see if they have a book that has paint samples and their code for that year that matches it as close as you can get it. Just make sure when you do decide on a color get the code though for you to keep.

I'm not sure about the Pontiac colours, but I know many were shared with the Camaros. Here's a colour chart for the '86 Camaros. There might be one that matches here. Have a look . . .
http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...trim&year=1986
Also, here is a website that has a list of all the colours used by Pontiac in '86. Your colour will be in this list, it's just trying to determine which one.

Also, if you want to try to scan your ride, you could try a spot that's not faded like inside the door frames or under the lip of the rear hatch, etc.
PS; Is there a white decal inside the driver's (possibly passenger) door? There might be a paint code written there.
PS;PS; Here's a good link to research your colour. Enter your rides specifics (make, model, year) and it present codes and colour charts.
