GTS smoke headlight covers
Do the smoke headlight lenses ruin your headlight velocity a lot and do they fit okay and actually stay on?
Thanks for looking

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
What do you mean by headlight velocity?
do you mean the visible light that gets to the road?
If so, yes the tinted covers do filter a lot of the light.
I used to have them way back when, and I remember one night coming home on some back roads, I couldn't see anything with those things on. Even with the high beams on, it was like having just the low beams on.
As for how they fit, and staying on. On my 84, they never seemed to fit right, I could never get them flush with the bumper, and I even had one fly off on the freeway.

Oh man. I'm not gonna get them then. Yeah I meant visibility sorry about that. I have heard nothing but problems with them. They look cool but it seems they just don't work. Thanks.

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
I can't begin to explain how pissed I am with these covers... I'm not joking I was on my 3rd set and then the passenger side flew off again at 60mph... Forget this **** it's garbage... I was actually doing alot of research to find ways to get them to stick on like adhesive and stuff but i can't seem to find any really sure fire solution... The only way would be too use adhesive around the whole cover to attach it to the nose panel (you can't screw it in obviously)... All in all, and after all that money I am back without them. They look cool and probably give a little bit of aerodynamics. I just wish someone knew a way to get them on for good.. where is the company? i cant even find their site on the net.. Or a number for tech support for this issue.

It really stinks they don't stay on. I wish shadow shades were still made. Thanks for the more reinforcement to make up my mind about them. Do the clear lenses stay on the same too?

That makes it worth every penny then. But any other way to loose a headlight cover makes it a waste

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
no those louvered ones look nasty.. (no offense if anybody has em lol) ... check the link in my sig.. the first few pics have them on, and ofcourse, the rest are without them lol.. take a guess why..
anyways, these are the flat smoked ones... and it's true, they diminish the headlight potency at night time, but who cares my fog lights make up for them big time

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
I have a set of both clear and smoked ones. Personally, I like the clear ones.
I had a smoked colored one on the passenger side fly off on the freeway at about 90, but really they can fly off at any speed when a strong gust of wind hits them from the front end. I had to use a strip of black electrical tape all along the bottom of the cover and the bumper cover to seal the small gap that's between the headlight cover and the bumper. Air will get in under the cover and the pressure will cause the cover to fly off. The tape seems to work well.
Here's a pic of the clear ones I can put up at this time (taken a few years ago).

Those things are so freakin' cool looking ... that's what I said in 1992. Just like everything else, times change. Now I think they look
.
I had a set for my Lumina 3.4 back in the day, and they didn't fit right either. Save your $.

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
I just figured the louvered covers would make my car stand out. Oh well. And to get them it seems like when one flies off you go "there goes $25, then the other one, there goes $50" Guess headlight covers just aren't meant to be. Oh well money saved to be spent somewhere else.

Re: GTS smoke headlight covers
I'm actually in the process of fab'ing some clear plexi ones. One of these days when the process is done I'll post them and let you know money, fitment, and stability. The way I'm doing it is with half inch plexi, from home depot, a template of the headlight pockets, and two tabs on the bottom that I'm going to heat treat and bend until the angle is right with the front bumpers, that way it sits flush. Then I'm going to buy two beauty rings and paint them flat black, along with the two screws I use, and I'm going to mount them. Then I'm going to put two strips of foam on the hood where in meets the lenses to seal the top. And use black phenoseal very lightly around the edges of the plexi to seal the sides. That should do it I think. It sounds good in theory.
