Anyone tried this body kit yet...

I was looking for a replacement bumper for my 83 and stumbled across this body kit on e-bay... not to fond of the import fighter look but I do want something differant...
heres the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-92...ayphotohosting

hopefully, someone has already used this company...
so I'll know its reputable...

or if anyone knows of another good company I could get a differant then stock front bumper cover from... let me know..
Thanks

p.s. if you have pics of this body kit on your car I would love to see them...

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

I can already tell you're gonna get alot of flame for this, but don't mind the hatters. I actually like it and truth be told, if I had an extra $900 lying around, I'd get it myself. As far as the company, They have 2 very recent negative comments... so I dunno, one of those negatives being an 4th gen Camaro piece... I'm actually glad to see the aftermarket taking a slight interest in 3rd gen Firebirds...it seems alot of the 3rd gen attention goes to Camaro's then Firebirds... (aftermarket crosslace rims anyone???)

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

thanks for both your comments...
yeah as far as the heat goes... I know I'm gonna get a little... but my front bumper cover is trash... plus I've kinda gotten tired of that look... I've never kept anything looking stock... the kit has a rice factor to it... I agree... however with a little fabrication to that nose cover, I think I could make it look good...

glad you guys like it.. I will have till wait till the first of 2009 to order one...

the side does look really good to me.. may be worth the kit for the side's and the rear bumper...

mentioning the rear bumper.. anyone know where I can get pics of the rear bumper in this kit..?

Thanks

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

If your main concern is having a body kit not crack or break, you should go with urethane. Although it is pricer, it is more durable than fiberglass. FYI, "Duraflex" is just one of the brand names for Fiberglass. Other similar brand names include "Flexfiber, Hybrid Aero and Vfiber." They are all pretty much the same and will break upon impact. IIRC Extreme Dimensions did a you tube vid of them running this stuff over and banging it w/a hammer. Well actually what they did this to was the "Demo" pieces. I've had a bit of experience w/this stuff and while I will go so far as to say it required a bit less fitment adjustments and I like the finish, I'd still go w/urethane considering how low our cars are (3rdgen fbodies in general) But if you end up ordering this kit, I'd be interested in updates at 3, 6, and 12 months to see how it holds up.

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

if I get the kit I'll make sure and give updates...
as for the material they use... yep it cracks and breaks and no more than I drive my 3rd gen.... it should hold up fairly well.. I'm not saying I havent dented my y-pipe or drug on a speed bump.. yep.. been there.. I don't like how low the kit appears to be to the ground... however... with some additional reinforcement I think it may hold up fairly well... but thanks for the comment Doc_G and I'll have to search for that youtube video...
any ideas where I could get a urethane front cover or body kit..?

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

I actually think it looks good.
Way better on a 3rd gen then any of the imports I've seen sporting similar "big mouth" grill body kits around.
I say if you like it go for it.

That's not as bad as some of them, but I don't know.
Maybe just the nose... I might change some of it had I put it together.

No, I was just saying that you have aftermarket Iroc rims in different sizes but NO ONE makes aftermarket crosslaces. Believe me, if they made 18in crosslaces, I'd be one of the first ones to purchase... I'm glad the aftermarket is starting to notice 3rd gen Firebirds too that don't relate to Kitt...

For people in the future that wont be able to click on the link...

Now that I'm looking at it, I honestly think it would go well with the gfx from the 91-92 Birds...

this is the rear shot they emailed to me.. .
I kinda dig that back bumper cover...

http://www.bodykits.net/images/bodyk.../135303/03.jpg

not bad for side effects either...

Thanks for the image drop HCR13 and the comments...
----------
They also had this statement in the email as well..

"Duraflex is an upgraded fiberglass that is mixed with a urethane resin that creates a part that is a little more durable and a little more flexible than a regular fiberglass part."

Don't know if its or not...

I like the sides a lot and the rear isn't too bad either. The front I'm 50/50 on, but if it's done right it might not be too bad. Black mesh is a must though.

My thoughts exactly...

Or one of the intercooled procharger kits. Depending on the nature of the internal structure there could be room for the piping, and that front grill would allow plenty of airflow. How bad *** would it look with large hole black mesh and the satin aluminum intercooler behind it?

Problem is no one can find anyone who did or does make them anymore.
I got lucky and fond it on cragislist for $175, had never been installed and sat around a shop for years...........

tried to use the clone tool and put the rear bumper on mine, got the width scale right but the bodykit pic is off level a tad n don't got the tools/skills to fix that. Only used the cloe tool about a doxen times.

if anyone can do it, give it a go.

Re: Anyone tried this body kit yet...

was talking to one of my thirdgen friends the other day about this body kit... I would have done it but I couldn't... I would really want the intercooler and other turbo parts prior to sinking the money into it... its still in the back of my mind though...
