Front corner of roof pushed down slightly
Hit an elk tonight. It's neck and head shattered the windshield, and after looking closer I realized the corner of the roof (right side) was pushed down about 3/8 of an inch. The side window didn't break, but it also doesn't fit into the seal along the front edge. The t-top didn't break, nor have I tried removing it.
Can this be straightened, or would it be cheaper to cut out the bad section and have a new one welded in?
I'm sure I could push the top back up with a jack, but the side area is beyond me.
I'll post a pic tomorrow. Right now I'm not sure where my camera is, it's cold, and I'm tired and depressed.

Major bummer! I'm sorry to hear about that. You are lucky, those things are huge! It can most likely be fixed with a simple pull... Post a bunch of pics taken at different angles...

It's my opinion that it would be better to repair that area than to replace it if possible. The pillar is made up of multipul layers and if replacing it it needs to be taken apart layer by layer and welded in properly. Not just chopped off and replaced.
Our count at the shop last month 3 deer, 1 elk and 2 teenagers. It's that time of year ... the teenagers are in heet you know!

I would take that to a bodyshop (Or a friend if you have a really talented one) It will most likely need a tower pull (Modified floor pull) The dent in the A-pillar can be fixed with a studwelder. It does not look too bad... If you do some of the tear down yourself you can save a lot of money. (Remove the pass side fender, antenna, windshield) It can be surprisingly cheap to have done...

Re: Front corner of roof pushed down slightly
There's one place in town that does body work (at least I think they do). Otherwise I need to drive about 20 miles to the other shops.
I'll stop by there tomorrow and see what they say.
The rear right side is dented in also. I might be able to pull it out with a plunger and push the top edge back down a bit with a hammer and block.
I'm wondering too if the window mounting stuff in the door isn't bent. It almost looks like the window got shoved back a little.

What happened to the elk?
That is crazy! You can still see the Elk hairs in the windshield.

Re: Front corner of roof pushed down slightly
A car was coming the other way and as it drove by I saw the elk standing next to the barb-wire fence. Right as the car passed it jumped the fence and when I got over there with a light it was gone. Can't find any blood on the car, just hair.
I don't know if it was hurt, and at the moment I was so pissed I would have shot it wether it was dying or not. I didn't have a rifle with me though, and a .38 is a little underpowered.
----------
I think I was doing about 50, and by the time I hit it I had probably slowed to around 40.

*** man...that is like a super power elk! If you hit it at 40, that bitchh must have like some internal injuries. It definitely won't be 'normal' anymore!
I have seen some horrific accidents involving deers near my house. Shitt, last summer, I ran over a squirrel and felt bad for several days.

Re: Front corner of roof pushed down slightly
One smaller place about 6 miles away told me $450 to do the roof and window.
The other place is about 16 miles and they said $730ish.
I'm pretty certain the window in the door is shoved back about 3/16 of an inch, so I might buy an entire door from the junkyard ($30) take the mirror and window stuff out of it, and hopefully replace it all without having to pull the door off my car and then go through realigning it.
Once the window is in the correct position, then I'll take it down there.
I'm also thinking about pulling the windshield before I go, pulling the dash pad, and vaccuming what glass shards I can from the heater vents and speaker.
I'll throw on the airsoft/snowboarding googles, and drive it down with no windshield.
