Painting procedures.....Is this ok?

I have a 88 IROC which has some fading on the hood, hatch, top of quarters and front fenders. Its too much to try and touch up and paint would never match. I have taken it to a local restoration shop to have him look at it.

Fist let me say this shop seems to be a class act, they have 2 older chevys there that are in different stages of repair. It reminded me of something I have seen on the Overhaul show. The shop is clean and everyone I met was nice and seemed to enjoy the job they were doing.

No for my question, I was given a price of 2000.00 to paint my car, seems they think since the paint on the sides is in real good shape they can just sand it and repaint it without any primer. Is this ok? Or is it a Maco job?

Thanks

yea, painting without primer is common, they'll more then likely use a sealer before spraying the basecoat though.

Well thas good to hear I was hoping this shop was on the level, he will also work with me and allow me to strip the car of parts to save me money off the 2000 price.

It sounds like a good place. Sometimes that's hard to find in a body shop.

Maybe ask to see some of they're work on completed cars if you're still worried.

if the paint is good on the sides why not just match the hood roof and spoiler and save a bunch of money

if they are charging 2g to do the tops bring it to me! I will charge you 1500

Re: Painting procedures.....Is this ok?

This shop is painting the whole car, he is only really charging me 1700 because I will dismantle the car for painting. Im sure he will find some other things that need to be done so I would hope it wont cost more than 2000.

Ive taken this car to 3 different shops to see if they could just paint the hood and hatch, all 3 said it would never match the rest of the paint. It is also fading on the top of the left quarter and the flare over the left fender.

My wife knows I really like this car and says its ok with her. What more do I need?

Oops.. That needs to be painted all over if you wished to' It's a tough job matching the color especially if you are not that capable of paint mixtures. I guess you need to finish your statements next time.
