HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
Hi everyone this is my first post but I've, been reading alot of topics and have gotten alot of help here so here goes my shot haha. About two weeks ago i ordered new hatch pull down unit and installed it today, as workin on it from the back i just used my key after installation to check to see if it was workin properlly, it caught it and pulled down correctly. Repeated this 3 or 4 times with my key from the back and it worked flawless. about hour later i decided to take a spin and when i came back home I decided to check my inside Hatch release button and it worked also! so happy right?!?! well when i got out locked my doors and when to shut it back it caught and held but it wouldnt pull itself back down tight. any help please? Just bought this assembly a week ago. help please? Jonathan Holcomb owner of 88 Trans am

open the hatch and work the switch with your key or your finger. Make sure it has cycled all the way into the down position. Then release it and see if comes up again. Then try closing it again. If nothing check your fuse first then your wiring.

As i couldnt wait to see if someone replied I woke up early took plastics off checked wires and fuse all good. the latch was stuck in top position and yes i used finger and clicked the hook down and nothing. after a few more attemps of using key to open and use finger to fake the lid closing it just started working again... no idea what it could of been. wires fuses were all good. thanks for the help. hopefully it will act right now!

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
Ok, does the hatch unit move at all, ?
----------
On the left of the hatch on the panel there is a metal contact, wana make sure your latch lid has two fingers that come down and touch this, this tells it to open when you push the release. Is that all in the car? THere is like a black lever in the center of the pulldown unit on top, If you push this, the unit should start retracting, if it does not, its probably a wiring issue, or you blew the fuse. If it moves, but wont pull the hatch tight, then the internals need to be replace and it sounds like you got that kit

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
No, i bought a new complete rebuild pre assembled unit. i installed it and it worked properlly, yes my two contacts are there and touching. checked the fuses. checked wireing. there is a ground wire and blue wire with a plug is only wires i have plugged in. there is another white wire which i had no where to hook it to, it was never used correct? I mean it was catching and pulling down correctly then just i poped it and it opened but when i latched it back it wouldnt pull down. Then i checked wires and took my ground a loose and reconnected it and it went down....? As of now ive tried nothing and its locked and stuck at its top position.

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
Just make sure you adjust the unit by the 3 bolts so it Clicks close, or when u hop in to take off, your battery will be dead. I started with it as low as it could go and kept moving it up till i heard it click.
I had one wire that did not connect to anything.
If you still have this problem ill be more then happy to go outside, pop the back off and snap a photo of what i have wired up

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
Well i had it wired same way. and it worked properly for like 10 cycles of opening and latching ang pulling down correctly. then just stoped. think I'm going to have to send it back in and get them to check it? i guess. They told me it was rebuilt with new relays and reverse switches so i dunno why this has occured haha. I do appreciate you, but im sure its wired correctly on my part.

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
HEY!!! i went to look at some old posts about hatches i mean ive been reading for atleast 3 hours now and i think i found it! i found a post by that u were in saying ur hatch only worked 80 % of time and some other stuff ha and some guy posted this after you " Everone does have the ground wire installed that goes from the 10mm screw attaching the solenoid to the hatch pull-down unit to the ground location on the body? That wire must be there because the solenoid is electrically isolated from ground by the guides in the track."" I DID HOOK MY GROUND WIRE to the key hole cable bracket screw haha which is voiding my relay im guessed bc this guy said the soilenoid is eltrically isolated by the guides which is true and im canceling that out by connected the ground wire to the latch itself? am i right? its dark now but tomarrow i will try. but wait it worked like 5 times while usesing this ground.... hmmm

Re: HATCH PULL DOWN UNIT PROBS!!
Hi rough, you helped me brother, We learned something together. as that guy said the solenoid has to have its own potential ground, haha i just used my nearest ground which was at the time i was putting the key release cable attachment screw it and that is what caused it. THE LOVE for this car had me just go back outside in dark wit drop light and made my women help! i used my amp ground wire screw directly in body for the hatch solenoid ground and its worky now. did it 5 times with key it pulled down, twice release wit inside push button and its workin correctly. THANKS ROUGH!! if i had a friends list id sure add ya mate. your ok in my book!
