Outrageous Body Mods: Pontiac Trans-AM WS-6 Station Wagon?!

I lol'd:

This is too much, I don't mind seeing Chrysler 300C's turned into Bentley's or even Fiero Ferraris, but a perfectly good WS-6 turned into a station wagon? Criminal.

After all these years of getting away from the wood-paneled people haulers, we are now faced with this abomination which not surprisingly failed to sell at auction (there was a single offer for $7,500).

So what do you think? I saw this was now posted on a few other blogs and people actually called it “beautiful”, “masterful”, “well done”. The only words I could think of were “no”, ”no”, ”no!” and “please God, please, no!”

Always thought it was kinda cool in a muscle wagon/grocery getter kinda way.

i dont like it at all, doesnt seem like the right kinda car to do that to, its well done but i just dont think a station wagon is worthy to have those things installed on it

Re: Outrageous Body Mods: Pontiac Trans-AM WS-6 Station Wagon?!

C'mon...it's ONLY a replacement hatch. Nothing else on the car was modified. Ponitac has toyed with this idea for over 30 years. It's called a Kamback, and yes there were 2nd and 3rd gen versions.

I'm planning on building the hatch in the future if I can ever get some spare time or finish the many projects that I have on hand.

There was even a 2nd gen Kammback. And ALL were built by GM, not home-made, not aftermarket.

I can honestly say its clean and looks much better than I thought it would as I was reading the quote. Is it for me? possibly, would I pay extra for it? not if it was outrageously priced.

Re: Outrageous Body Mods: Pontiac Trans-AM WS-6 Station Wagon?!

On the 3rd gen, it opened just like the stock hatch, like 3th gen in the eBay auction.

On the 2nd gen only the 2 side windows opened, as in the pic. Not a hatch at all. Basically a station wagon that opened on the sides.

Re: Outrageous Body Mods: Pontiac Trans-AM WS-6 Station Wagon?!

I'm not a huge fan of the Hurst 4th gen Kammback. I think the 3rd gen Kammback looks awesome. If they would of used a hatch more inspired by the Taurus wagon, the 4th gen would look awesome. The one Hurst hatch is too "3rd gen" for the curvaceous WS6 Trans Am...

+

awesome!

It wouldn't look so off if the back wasn't so squared. It just doesn't flow right.

If you are looking for a wagon sports car just go with the Dodge Magnum.

That's the Hurst Hauler, it was a one-off concept if I remember correctly. Google "hurst hauler" to find more pictures/info.

I kind of like it. If you can simply swap out the hatches back and forth why not?
Gives you a dual purpose and think of SUBS you could slam in there, JackHammers any one?

Because, IIRC, it was a car built by Year One for the Hot Rod Power Tour.

Re: Outrageous Body Mods: Pontiac Trans-AM WS-6 Station Wagon?!

Does anyone know where I can get one for my '85 T/A???

This may mean not having to give up one of my sports cars for a station wagon when the kid is born!
If you've got ANY info on an aftermarket K-hatch please let me know!

i think the K hatch on the 3rd gen is pretty sweet. its like if you had a regualar TA and the wife drove the K hatch thing for grocery shopping and she still looked bad a$$. it all works.
