Re: smoothin car out

Yey, I'll get some pics of her car up to show ya, when I say mint, I mean mint!!! Still has AM/FM radio.... that's not what was Killer, the price was.... Anyway... Hey , not that I'm a pic *****, but I finished the driver side cover except the part for the scanner(alot of work in just one panel) and also put a piece of weatherstrip between the radiator cowl and engine cover. While doing that, I added a fitting, don't know if I like yet or not, but on most turbine engines, anywhere on the engine you can see plenty of fittings like this. So , I made one, looks cool in some respect, but on the other side , I like the clean smooth look. Don't know which way to go, but it is removable/not permanent. Anyway. Here are some shots. The last one is just a cool shot. It's almost like KITT's smiling....LOL I was excited to take some shots, not everything is aligned perfectly in the shots, but oh well. Scanner will be done tommorrow, maybe I can fire the scanner up with the hood up...make look cool? Talk to you all tommorrow

P.S The covers on the left and right are from a VW Toureg, the middle piece is actually a Lenovo PC tower(looked too cool not to use) but it is what holds it all on the carb, that I had to build....you can look back at some of my threads, maybe an engine one, the build was on there. The turn signal covers are ones I made, the radiator section is what I made also, so , could it withstand the heat, definately everything but the PC section. The way I have planned is to leave everthing on , when transporting, put a small air cleaner on, then at show, after the car cools down, put the engine cover on. It was made to pull off quickly. Anyway....Hope this helps

Re: smoothin car out

Not trying to wear you all out with pictures...just excited, as I think....(YES, THINK) I'm done with this crazy @ss cover stuff. This will be my last post for awhile. Just had some time off and man did I knock some stuff out... The covers for the most part are finished along with the scanner cover too. The turn signals fit like a glove from the help of me epoxing some bolts in to hold them. No bolts showing ! Yey... Jjokin. With the scanner area, it's a little different, you have to make the covers go with the hood and definately not straight across, as you can see in the second pic... had to raise the middle up and make it go more with the lines of the hood.

I do have a few things left to do as in the scanner area where it meets is kind of ugly, thought about making something to hide the seam, it would definately look better, but for now, enough modding of stuff!!!!Although , I will say, I'll finish it up around the seam and will also probably add some electrics to add some coolness (Knight Rider style),well, I'm tired of all the work on this crap. Time to move on to bigger and better things...Like an engine in the bay....I think it's fun to look back and go, man, what have I gotten myself into....

Re: smoothin car out

Thanks, well, considering I also sculpted 3 noses before this last and final one, plus had to do all work myself....engine, body work, fab work, etc.... Thanks!!!! Almost 7 years of work.... Here's the dash and a very cool frontal shot of the nose on wifey's car..... by the way, she's a gear head also....She picked the cam out!!!

Re: smoothin car out

Just got the engine in , and yes the old Martin kit works, as long as you get a mini starter , and mod the flange on the exhaust manifold. Other than that, it fits great, and looks KILLER!!! Haven't posted in awhile, but , engine is in and I can't wait to get everything back in.... Thanks for looking

Knight Rider theme fits well.... I actually like it alot without it.... hard for me to say after all the work, but man, I like the engine look too.....and maybe once everything is in and looking par, it might feel different. I'm still an old hot rodder myself...

The ingenuity of the engine cover is just awesome. I applaud you, sir! I can only imagine how KITT is going to come out looking!

BTW, what engine did you drop in?

Re: smoothin car out

Just an older 77 vette blk. It has the big crank, and should put out with 5lbs of boost, should put around 320-350 HP. It's just a stock 260 HP engine. Torque though, will be great!!!! I will dyno it , but other than that, it will be just for show... sorry! Thanks on the covers, I can't wait to get them in my car instead of my wife's, but , time is all it is....for sure!!!

Re: smoothin car out

u should look into the astro van steering shaft or whatever it is for these cars. might look cleaner than the covered rag joint shaft.

how much of a pain is it to work in that engine bay and try not to scratch anything?

What's "redicuolous" about it?

It's an extremely accurate representation of one of the most famous third gens of all time.

Re: smoothin car out

Thanks guys! Not done too much , but I CAN officially move on to getting coolant stuff done on the car now. It's kind of working out. Wifey wants same Pulley kit on her 82 , and also wants electric fan, so, we are trading cooling systems. My 88 electric into hers, and the fan blade/old school in mine. Should be cool. I am actually putting a 700r4 in hers at the moment, but I did have enough time to shoot a pic of the engine .....Almost done!!! Now to get hers back home, to get some goodies off of hers and put some goodies on her 82. Anyway. Here's a pic of what March has brought.... My truly March update....Hah! Don't know about the engine cover now, as man, the egnine is getting to be looking cool!!!
Marc
P.S. Still have little things to get. Power steering cover and pump cap, etc.... now for the cooling stuff...Getting almost ready to fire up this bad boy!!!!

Yey, it's March's low cost system , but remember to get a 6 and 12 mounting tabs on Alternator if you go OEM style. Now for cooling and Exhaust and this baby will be done!!!

Re: smoothin car out

Almost there, actually after pictures, I put the plugs in and am getting ready for power steering hose, radiator hose, etc... All the little stuff. Also got the scanner cover on and test fitted. Glad it all still fits good... Never seen it with the real engine bay... Turned out cool.... Anyway... All Turbo stuff is done also... Waiting on downpipe to get coated, after that, it's done... and will be only needing little stuff. Excited. Will be by the end of the year cranked and outside looking like KITT for sure. Very close!!

Re: smoothin car out

Got Engine about ready to crank. Just have to add fluids and try to let it rip, hopefully everything will go well. Been awhile since it's cranked. Last engine when I bought it was a blown 305, so to see this one running again will be great... Anyway. Here's some pics of the finished work.

Re: smoothin car out

I have 3 weeks off for Christmas, got a lot of iron's in the fire...
total redo / upgrade my 10 bolt rear end, headliner fiberglassed, upper console work, putting in Cyberdyne gauges into it so I can see numbers for engine vitals instead of trying to read / figure out Kitt's bar graph, had Alston's welded in last week (already had spohn's), got a new Mcleod Clutch / pressure plate and GM performance flywheel, spohn torque arm all going in in January.... Today working on SEM interior paint (check interior section).... tired... but gotta get it finished Hat's off to you and the countless hours of work to make your car that nice...
