building a Cowl induction hood.
i know i can just buy a cowl induction hood for like 450 bucks or i can just buy the cowl itself for like 70 bucks. i have lots of experience with metal fabricating and everything and i wanted to know what everybody thought? its not going to be a fully functional one just more for looks really. my hood is already kinda messed up and it needs re-done anyway. has anybody else done this? if so please leave pics of you got them!!
Re: building a Cowl induction hood.
I might make one for mine. My reason would be for function though.
Here is what i was going to do. (not really worried about the way it looks)
Use a flat strip for the center, but cut it wide. Using the extra width for tabs. I say tabs, cause of the curve. With the tabs bent at a 90 degree angle.
Same idea for the sides. But without tabs.
Cut the hole, but small, then use the hood for tabs, to hold the sides to the hood.
Then just rivet it together.
I was also going to bring the center section, under the hood, then rivet it in the front. If that makes sense.
However if you have a welder, sounds like you could make one that looks great.
I would weld it, but I dont' have one, and I don't want to pay for one, cause the hoods going in the trash. Eventually. I just want the function, and don't want to put on a good hood, until I get the front end straight.

Re: building a Cowl induction hood.
yeah see i have a welder and a grinder and evrything oyu need to build something out of metal. my dads been a proffesional welder for ovr 20 years lol. thats basically what i was gonna do, and later on down the road if i wanted to i would make it functional. but i was gonna weld the sides down to the hood and grind it smooth and use some putty and sand it really smooth, prime it and paint it. i could make it for free minus the paint. already got putty and primer in the basement. so instead of a 450 dollar one, i could make it for 50 bucks lol.

If you have the tools to do it go for it.
If you have a bead roller that would be a good idea to have one down the middle for a little more ridgidy.
So long as you take your time, should look real good.
