I primed the roof yesterday, just some surface rust, there is nice solid steel underneath.

Your post is not real clear. Did you remove the rust before you sprayed the primer?

yes..... i know how to do bodywork.... i figured anyone in their right mind would understand that you have to remove it..... hence why i said it had nice steel underneath.

MY g/f is thinking about whether she wants the 91-92 Z28 spoiler on the rear hatch or not. I'll keep you guys updated.

Are you telling me that "once over dust, twice over rust" does not apply in this case?

Re: Starting the paint job.

I am now onto the hatch, it was looking a little deep into rust but not terrible, easily salvageable.

A lot of what you see is the dust from me grinding the rust off...I am treating the rust right now. So far so good.

Good work. Did you get a good look at the floorpans yet? Oh yeah, you gotta keep the stock spoiler on it. Let everyone know that it is a real b4c and not a z28. Keep us updated.

yea the stock spoiler is staying. And i haven't looked at the floorpans yet, From the underside the only bad spot is on the pass side, in the back. has a hole where i can feel the carpet. Everywhere else you could hit with a hammer. But for $700 what can you expect. But it has the original owners manual, a build sheet, and the original "Camaro" tape that must have came with it. its sealed in thin plastic like it was never opened! (found those where i found the RPOs in the back box in the side of the well.)

what are you using for a spray gun? Also, what size nozzle. I'm getting ready to practice and need some ideas on guns for primer and paint and even clear coat.

To tell the truth if i had the money i would go buy a nice devilibiss, or sharpe spray gun but considering i don't, i'm just using a cheap *** walmart spray gun. Been working ok so far... Gravity fed all the way! haha I hate suction fed or pressure fed. Using it for primer, my dad has a nice sharpe gun i'll use for the paint. I use PPg paints you can get through carquest, not a dupont fan. I'm still looking into the clear. MY g/f called them while i was at work so all i know are the prices nothing else. I'll let you know.

Re: Starting the paint job.

why are you panel painting the car? all that tape is going to make some terrible hard lines, you should be feathering in the edges if your not planning on painting the entire car.

and you should pop off that spoiler and check for rust under it is a common problem area, paint it off the car for the best finish, then reinstall after all the paint and clear is set up and cured.

What kind of primer are you using? If your taking it all the way down to steel..it would have been a good idea to use an epoxy primer...

Do you all think i'm stupid? i have 2+ years of auto body beneath me. I'm backtaping and feathering the edges out. anybody who leaves hardlines is an idiot.... There are few things i don't know how to do.

Well, with my simple (dumb, I guess) question, I just have to say that it was all in the wording of your post. You said "I primed the roof yesterday, just some surface rust, there is nice solid steel underneath", whereas if you would have said that there was solid steel underneath, it would have been a little clearer.

I just finished the bodywork on the damaged right rear quarter and primed the A pillers, the sail panels, and both rear quarters.

The microscopic difference between the 2 colors? no one will notice, only if you look for it. And i can't even tell, look at the pics.... The pass door was not painted, the quarter was... looks fine to me... And i would spray the whole car but the car has to be out of the garage relatively soon, she needs her car on the road. haha

For being a garage spray its not too bad, some flies got into the clear after i left it for the night too!!! I WAS PISSED!! But its ok i'll just wet sand it out, its should come out good. (idk where the flies came from either lol) Shiny paint attracted them i guess.... THe front fenders look good, pass door was fine, rear buper cover has to be buffed big time but other than that the rest of the car is being sprayed..... so im spraying the majority of it...
