Paint, before and after, lets see, I'll tell you my story.....
I would love to see your before and after paint experiences!!!! I'll tell you what I am going through right now. Pictures will follow........ probably Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
So, I stumbled an add on Craigslist for expert body work and paint. SO, I called and 45 mins later he was here to look at the car. I told him what I wanted, he told me what must be done to paint my car. The body work must be done, because if his paint work was to be done, it needs to look good. On and on. I stewed on this for a day. I felt based off of the work of his I saw, the go get it attitude, the integrity behind his words, and his experience, that I'd go for it. So, here goes 1800.00 into my 1991 Z28.
As of now, been 4.5 days, the body work is done. I haven't called him today. Going to paint soon. What I was told was a full sand and feather, 2 coats primer/sealer, 4 base, 3 clear. I'm going to let him work and not bother the guy, but hehas built my expectations and throughout the process seems solid, so far with the body work and seems to have gone above and beyond.
I will admit, I have been nervous, as I fronted 1000.00 and my car, but I really think I will be happy.
Anyone ever do anything like this????
If this turns out like I expect, I am going to refer alot of people to this guy!!!!
Heres the before's, after hours of work to make the car a good 25 footer, the paint is horrible, poor prep, chipping off, primer coming through the paint, dents, ect......... you can even see the blue original color in the wheel well, especially the front https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...d-pics-my.html

If your car just needs paint and minor dents and scratches filled then $1800 under the table will probably go pretty far. especially if you are going from black too black. if he is doing primer, sealer, bc/cc then he will have most of that down payment invested into materials. hope it works out for you. if you want before and after pics of my car check out the link in my signiture.

Thats a cool little chronical you've got there. Thank you for the feedback. Obviously I was nervous about the whole deal, but I am feeling better about it all. Your car looks really good!!!
I have also figured out that I need to not bother the guy, I have found that body/paint guys want to be left alone untill the job is done.

thanks for the compliments. I would say you dont really have to call every day but I dont think it would bother him too much if you called every once in a while. if he is just working on it as a part time project then there wont be a lot of progress every day anyways.

yeah that's a killer deal. My cars in the works right now. But I'm going Candy Apple Red. So I'll be forking out more money.
But that includes jams, under the hood, shaving the door handles, very minimal body work.
here's a before pic:

Heres an after pic so far (this was last fall)

the car will be finished in the next couple months.
Best of luck with your car. I look forward to seeing the pics!

Here's a before, 3 days after I bought the car back in '99. Paint was really bad and would flake off if you took a hose to it.

1st paint job I replaced the front ground fx and bumper, think 2000 or 2001.

Well I got bored with the white paint job so stripped it down and started on another paint job.

Got it in the booth...

Now looks like this, just need to make some aluminum center caps.
