PO of my buddie's 85 SC 2.8l removed the AC compressor, smog pump, and EGR INCLUDING THE VALVE ASSEMBLY, and just left the open stand pipe. she also removed EVERY vacuum tube except for the brake booster, so it had close to zero vacuum, also claimed to have the trans rebuilt, but of course 2k later the pump blew apart. I found 35$ in change under my carpet, and a can of chewing tobacco IN my evaporator box.

It amazes me how badly some of these cars have been taken care of over the years.

Previous owner drilled through the back hatch area into the gas tank.
Still can't figure out what for. But I had to plug the holes in the gas tank.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
Guess what I did. I cut off one of the metal pipes that come off of the heater core and installed it in place of the pipe that curves out infront of the throttlebody. I did this to re-route the coolant for the coolant by-pass/throttlebody mod. Looks ok though. It hugs the altenator braket and the way the tube is curved, it looks clean. I'll take a picture tomorrow to show what Im talking about.

Having pulled out the carpet, i think i've found all the interior secrets. i've found enough change to pay back half of the car, screws for everything and more, drywall screws, self tapping screws, 2 movie tickets, condom wrapper, toilet paper tubes, a 6"orbital buffer, the power seat run to wires in the fuse box, ground wires from the park neutral saftey switch run to the tranny pan and thats about it so far. oh, and a 04+ grand prix spoiler on the back.

Victor junior heads, ported and polished, with a itty bitty cam. Starter with no shims, Cam with mismatched (dual) valve springs, non hardened (stock)pushrods with guideplates with said springs, roller tip rockers that didn't clear the wide as hell mismatched springs, stock ecu on top of all that.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
When I bought my '91 RS, there was no head unit installed. The PO gave threw in his aftermarket so I had something. I later re-rewired my speakers due to no sound coming from the rear. The head unit harness was hacked up and the rear speakers were connected with clear home theater speaker wire. The front left speakers positive terminal connection was made up of the wire being stripped bare and looped around the terminal instead of stamping a connector on the wire.

Holy crap. That's not the type of thing you want to find when tearing down an engine. Though I guess it beats huge cracks and other problems. Still you've got to wonder what the hell the builder was thinking.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
I'm curious, as our cars are getting older and people just don't want to invest the money into "fixing it right"
What are some of the goofy things you've found done that the PO ought to be hung for?
My firebird was in pretty good shape when I bought it, but my Corvette had the throttle cable assembly rigged up with speaker wire and the engine shimmed with huge washers (bad frame) when I bought it
I've heard stories of owners pulling carpet and finding a floor patch made of an old metal sign or even wood.
Anyone want to share their experiences

When I got my IROC I noticed that the emergency brakes barely had any pull at all. Lo and behold when I got it up, the emergency brake cables were actually green weedwhacker line that was attached to the calipers and front cable bracket by knots.
Oh and the PO just couldn't be more proud of how the A/C blows cold in the summer on a 100 degree day. And it did blow cold, until it all leaked out. I don't feel bad though, since by the smell I realized it my A/C was filled with propane.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
That's one of the many things I found wrong with my 1985 Trans Am. A secondary fan was added as was a transmission oil cooler. The latter was installed with zip ties and the former was bolted in with a piece of metal which was obviously a bracket for something else. It was screwed into the radiator support and the tray in front of it with various sizes of sheet metal screws.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
I just got this camaro last week.
First thing that stood out when I looked at it was the shifter. I don't know what the hell it is, but it looks like it should be in an airplane. The guy cut the hole for the original shifter bigger to make it fit. I can't tell if I'm in neutral or drive. I just have to hit the gas and see.
My neighbor called the sheriff on me the other day because of me revving the engine in my driveway.
Part of the old shifter is still laying in there. You can see it through the massive hole in the console.
The MSD is bolted to the floor on the passenger side. It has wires hanging off of it, and it looks like it's older than the car.
And here's one that's bugging me right now. One of the louvers is glued on to the hood with liquid nails. The front two-thirds of it is busted off, but the rest of it isn't going anywhere. I just hope the other one isn't in the same condition.

I wouldn't have purchased a car like that. Though I do totally understand getting surprised by some of the things you find after the sale. I found tons of hidden rust under my 1987 Trans Am.

I've never had to do anything ghetto to my thirdgens because none of them have ever been my daily drivers.

Its funny, after we had our conversation I had to do something ghetto to my car. I removed the air cleaner to work on the carb which has loose butterflies and a sticking throttle. When I pulled the air cleaner off, the hose going to it from the valve cover snapped off. So now I've got it repaired with a hose clamp and some duct tape.
Its temporary I assure you.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
Well, I didnt find anything other than this ghetto Camaro out on the web,

I posted these pictures on an other thread but I felt that this Camaro needed a spot here in the "Ghetto" thread.

Oh man as far as doing ghetto things go I have done my fair share... I try now to avoid all of this though at all costs. I am older and wiser now...
I have repaired exhaust with coat hangers, and or bailing wire. Made cotter pins out of coat hanger. Sadly this actually works pretty good. Used duct tape on almost anything and everything. Used household speaker wire for car audio ((( But really what youngster hasn't?))) I have patched holes with liquid metal, and or jb weld.. Used electric tape instead of connectors like you always should! I could be here forever listing these but I'll keep it short.
