WOW... I think that was supposed to mean "The guy before me duct taped the spark plug wires together and did the same with the battery cable". tazs2000, do you have a learning disability or other physical/mental ailment? If you do, then okay that's a legitimate reason and I understand. If you don't, think about the fact that you appear to have such a severe problem and please do something about it.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
Wow... makes me think of mine as show room Camaro right now :P I remember when I restored mine it barely had any rust at all. Of course I didn't check the back end all that much, which oddly enough I think every 3 Gen has some rust back there no matter what! I'm scared to even lift up the carpet back there and some spots now lol
Well I finally got my door to quit sagging... used a nice fat washer to take up that extra room between the hinge and the welded hinge on the door itself. Man it helped drastically!! Just had to get creative I guess, without that washer taking up that extra room it would still be ripping and cracking my skirt. But I adjusted the bolts for about 2 hours straight to get it all right, tightened em and prayed to God when I tried to shut it, it wouldn't hit the skirt. It shut and the door doesn't budge, still overlaps but hey I'm happy I can at least use the door now.. what a relief. No more crawling across the console or through the window for nearly 2 years now lol

replace the part and try lubing up the area with heavy bearing grease to reduce the friction. Friction is the enemy when it comes to metal agianst metal, other than rust.

That rear quarter and paint come first, since the door's shut right now. And also due to the fact that I think that Hawks' wanting $120 plus shipping for just the one half of the hinge is a little ridiculous, even if places such as Classic Industries want more.

!!!!!! $120 for the hinge. Talk about price gouging. Some of these busines's are just out there. When the EGR Temp sensor got dicontinued, they went from around $20 to $80 in about 2 months when they found out that the part was absolete. I agree bro. Take care of that panel. Hope that it all works out for you.Junior Member

A local Camaro shop charged $35 for 1 power window switch lol Their was none on ebay so I had to get it. Luckily I know a guy with a parts car and we bought an entire door and both power window switches for $60! talk about reasonably priced lol $5 for the switches instead of $35, gonna take back that one switch for sure now! Since they're the only Camaro shop left in about a 70 mi. radius, they can charge however much they want on anything cause they know their the only ones with the parts.

If the hinge from Hawks is made by Top-Down Solutions, to be fair it isn't an OEM part. It's a custom designed and machined set of parts that improves the upper hinge design and saves you from having to drill out and weld in an entire new hinge assembly. It even has an option to have a grease fitting to keep the hinge well lubricated and working for many more years. I got the set and it was totally worth the cost.

I had a 89 firebird that someone used old galvanized fence posts to make the exhaust and he used a stick welder to put it together, so it was full of slag holes.

Oh, and I've done a bit of power window ghetto rigging myself. Instead or replacing my broken factory switches with OEM ones, I went out and paid $8 for a pair of DPDT switches from RadioShack. Required a smaller hole be drilled in my bare 3rd gen 5-speed shift plate as opposed to the monsters that need to be cut for the factory switches, but they work pretty well (hold up to 30A each, more than the window breaker can stand, so I'm good).
:edit: Window talk reminded me that my pass side door window was held in place with BOLTS and NUTS with a couple of the plastic insulator pieces missing between the window track and the glass when I bought the car. I have the insulators in now, but I think I'll keep the bolts for the time being.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
My backup car had been driven by my sister and had been in a few accidents. Like the passenger fender was dented and had orange and gray paint all over it because she hit a dumpster in the driveway. The front bumper had black marks on it from her t-boning another car and hitting the tires which left the marks. So I realized that some paint had chipped from the fender and started to get some surface rust. So I run inside and come back out with a can of Rustoleom and spray painted all the spots that were damaged.

The thing is though she didnt back into it but she side swipped it while I was in the passenger seat. She didnt listen to me cuz I was telling her you need to pull forward and straighten out but she just kept going and just crunched the fender and almost made the side mirror explode.

battery tray is apparently almost rusted through so the previous owner(s) cut a piece of wood to fit in it's place and used a bungee cord to secure the battery.

Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
Nothing ghetto was done to it when we got it. We have done 2 ghetto things to it so far, but it has worked nicely.
The ground fx on the passenger side door bent out at the rear fender side. For whatever reason the fiberglass had bent outward and had created a 2 inch gap between the door and itself. To solve this problem we jammed a thin piece of wood at the spot where the bend started and made the fiberglass straight again. Put it back on the door and now it looks 100 times better.
The other one is the drivers side headlight bucket. The previous owner bumped something and left a large bent in the driver side fender and had caved in the headlight bucket. Because of that, the whole side of the nose piece stooped down, making the side of the nose that is by the hood drop lot. We just took a fairly large wooden block and jammed it up into the headlight bucket and it raised everything up. The piece next to the hood is starting to sink again though so I think it might be only a temporary fix.

so far all i have came across are the results of a bad wiring job for the stereo and the remnants of an audio system install.
Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
I think I may have you all beat and this is only 1 car. An 85 z28 ,lets see where to start front disc brake pads only 65% touching rotors , fuel pump hot wired to fuse block with a toggle switch to bypass the relay it is spliced in to both wires where they exit the body .5 of 8 plug wires landed wrong . Wire nuts everywhere!! Ground effects completly held on by zip ties ,of course there is caulk to stop the t's from leaking (which did not work btw) air intake taped to tpi .And of course it came with a 2x4 .theres more I just cant think of it right now . Oh and I bought a car some years ago that was advertised as new paint ,which it had but was exterior house paint applied with a brush .

As for the headlight bucket one, it was meant to be a temp fix. Short of buying a new nose, we have no idea how to go about fixing it.

i got one for ya, someone spent the money, but didnt fix it right. I got an 85 Iroc that HAD the 305 HO TPI minus the tpi. Someone actually put an edelbrock performer RPM intake and a Edelbrock 750 carb ontop that 305. U wanna talk about overkill.

The front shocks on my hood are some what weak so I have to put a 2x4 in there and after about 10 minutes the shocks get stiff so then it stays up. I have also seen these fourth gen camaros and RS camaros that drive around with IROC-Z decals on the side. Some of them say IROCK-Z or IROK-Z written on the side.

Hi there fellow member. I dont mean to get on your case but when I read your comment, especially when you stated "cpu," I then said to myself, "he meant PC chair." CPU stands for "Central Processing Unit" which is the brain of the computers motherboard.

. Ive seen the Camaro around for about 1 year and I never had a chance to take a picture until now. My wife hates my IROC, but when she saw this one, she admitted that she would rather drive mine. As kicking the crotch, I'd rather have the owner smell my burnt rubber and exaust. Supreme Member

My idle was adjusted instead of just replacing the intake manifold gasket that was leaking
Re: What is the most ghetto thing you've found done to your car?
This wouldn't really be a "ghetto" thing I've found in my car but when I had my old factory 22 year old radiator removed 3 months ago and when I drained all of the coolant out of the IROC there were cigarette butts all in the coolant!

I kind of believe that one because Ive heard of others that empty out a cigarette to plug a hole. Ive also been told that you can use chewing taboacco (fine cut) to plug up a leaking cooling system. I saw on Mythbusters that a raw egg can temporarily plug up a hole.

I bought my car for 800, and it also came with a 2x4 to hold up the hatch and hood
the PO drilled an amp in the back and now my gas tank has holes in it.
the PO also had the exhaust held up with old used up tires, if i remember correctly lol
and i found stems from weed in the ash tray and by the shifter.

My 89 RS Camaro 2.8 has the radiator overflow bottle replaced with a weed eater gas tank. Someone before me was very creative...

I love this thread for the following reasons:
A- It keeps going
B- The ghetto things done just get more and more outrageous
3- People have actually started admitting to ghetto things they did to their cars themselves!
Note- the A,B,3 was intentional as a joke
