bumper bummer

I have a 91 rs and it looks like the Hulk punched in the one side of my front bumper.....I know it isnt a simple bondo job, but I was thinkin maybe it could be fixed with fiberglass if i take it off and reshape it. Perhaps Im just being optomistic, but im posting a pic up and I would appreciate any ideas you may have. Can I fix it or do I need a new one??

Re: bumper bummer

Stick a band-aid over it. Maybe it will fix itself.

I would think you could fix it with fiberglass, but I have a feeling you are better off snagging one at the junkyard for like $35 or so. I mean either way you are going to have to get it painted. Unless you have all the fiberglass and stuff already, I would bet it would be cheaper to get one at the JY.

Re: bumper bummer

that was the original plan, but apparently they are a hot idem. They told me 150, and then when i went there they said they havnt had one in years. Could it look normal with fiberglass?

Re: bumper bummer

If you take ALOT of time getting it all sanded and prepped before painting it, I would think it wouldn't be too bad. What year is your car and model? If I find one, I can snag it for you. I remember shipping a front bumper was like $45 and I got it for like $40, so if you tossed me like $20 to pull it and ship it, I will keep an eye out for you.

Re: bumper bummer

Not trying to be the bad guy here - but I don't know if glass will stick - these bumpers are plastic and not fiberglass. I had a small crack in one corner of mine, and my body/paint man told me to just replace it - wasn't worth the trouble - and he was getting paid! So I just bought a new one from Hawks, and was very very pleased with it.

Go for it & see what happens, but don't spend more time/money than it's worth. (I'm always trying the cheap way, and I always end up doing what I should have in the beginning LOL)

Re: bumper bummer

use a 2 part urethane repair kit from SEM it works good due a search on here and there is a post about fixing bumper covers. If done right it is good as new.You want to fill most of the void with the 2 part and then a very light skim coat of filler to fill any tiny impefections. There is a backing mesh SEM sells but you can use drywall tape.I also recomend "pining" each side of the void with small drill holes and alowing the bumper repair to flow in.I.M.O this works best.Check out SEM's website They have some instructions on there.

Re: bumper bummer

Ditto with Howy. I have used the sem and the maxim stuff with excellent results.
It is not as cheap as glass though but will stick if you prep it right.
