Rear Bumper Rust Question

Under my car behind the rear bumper there is a meatle C Channel, almost looks like a bumper reinforcement. Well, I saw some rust on it and started grinding. Found out practally the entire center is rotted through. Is this easy to fix, can the whole channel be replaced, or am I looking at more cut out the center and weld in a new piece??

How expensive would something like that be at a body shop approx if anyone even has a guess...

That would be cool!! How hard is it to get the bumper cover off, and get it back on and lined up correctly?

Re: Rear Bumper Rust Question

Mine has some minor rust on the bottom too whereas the rest of the car is perfectly rust free. Very weird. Glad to hear it's an easy fix, may just go ahead and fabricate a tubular one.

Re: Rear Bumper Rust Question

Yeah, my whole car is rust free too... If I get a new one, I think I'll coat it in uncercoating just to be sure. Anyone know where I can buy a replacement for it? I checked Hawks, they only have the plastic honeycomb thing.

Re: Rear Bumper Rust Question

sorry for the quality my camera is junk one shows the bar another shows the whole back half of the car (you can see why i had to take it off, thanks again PO) and another is a close up shot of where it mounts, its about the same on both sides. i would recommend soaking all the nuts before hand because if the bolts start spinning inside the impact bar they are a PITA to get out. i had to cut one of mine off.

It is super easy. It has the pop tabs (not sure of correct term) you have to pop out, and the you access the bolts that hold the bumper on through the inside of the car. Take out the back plastic and there they all are. 8 bolts on the rear impact bar (which like to break at times) and you are home free. No lining up, it goes back straight.

Re: Rear Bumper Rust Question

They are pop riveted on there. Drill them out and they fall off.
