Believe it or not those were both made by GM.

Funny thing is they were ahead of their time.....Subaru is doing similar things nowadays and being somewhat successful with it.

Re: How to ruin a Firebird 101

Without a doubt it could be a successful idea but an f-body is far to small inside for a "camper top" to help anything but yea something like that could have success look at the Dodge Magnum a "muscle station wagon" not a sport car made into a station wagon

I liked the 3rd gen wagon, not so much on the 4th gen.

GM toyed with this idea with the 2nd gens

I was $300 and less than a week short of buying one of those. Guy had it in his backyard just sitting and I asked about it...he was selling it for $2300 and I had saved $2000, went to him a few days before I got paid again and it was up on a flatbed being hauled away...wish I could have bought that stringray wagon. Don't know what you mean by punished...I think they're unique.

This idea had been tossed around for a long time. Before the corvette debuted in 53 they showed a wagon version at the new york autorama. I agree though the third gen is the only one that looks even remotely good.

I really don't think those cars look all that bad. They aren't much more useful for storage than before, but I wouldn't pass on one if someone gave it to me

Re: How to ruin a Firebird 101

I think the corvette looks the least like crap. Why must the T/A be punished? The 2nd/3rd/4th gen T/A's look HORRIBLE, with the 2nd gen taking the crown!

Re: How to ruin a Firebird 101

I personally don't think any of them look that bad. I think the 3rd gens look the best, followed by the Corvette version, which actually looks pretty damn good IMO, then the 2nd gens, and 4th gens least, although I really don't dislike any of them

Well i don't think any of them look that bad. Except our cars are already coupes. Why would you try to make a two door wagon. There just not big enough

Re: How to ruin a Firebird 101

I've got mixed feelings about those. I don't think they'd be too useful, and they make the car look big and bulky.. on the other hand, at least they are well done and in that sense don't look too ugly. I guess if you had the normal hatch (or notchback) and just wanted to switch it up for fun or for a trip or something it could be useful. I definitely like the 3rd gen one the best.

By the way, what I meant by being well done (or not):

Thank you, craigslist!

And yes, that is the hatch off of a ford...
