It's pretty tough to do with out breaking it, in fact most junkyards make you pay for it before you try, just in case you do break it. Just take you time dig out all the weatherstripping aroung the windshield as well as all the glue crap that they put them in with.

Re: Broke My friggin windshield !!!!

You'll never get it out without a professional tool to remove it. I think it's a heated wire that melts thru the polyeurathene. Make the junk yard pull it for you. If you install it yourself make sure you put the seal around the edge first and use polyeurethene. The installers cut a U channel in the tip of the dispenser gun so that it comes out the same height when pressed against the window frame. Have a buddy help.

Re: Broke My friggin windshield !!!!

Thanks for the advice guys....as for the JY pullin it, no luck its a "U Pull It"......and Ive removed ONE for a Storm with some kind of braided wire saw that I got from Advance Auto......and I broke 2 trying to get the one out.....Ive heard that break fluid will eat up the windshield glue, anyone else? Ive installed Two windshields before, so I know the tricks like putting strips of tape across the Header and blocking the bottom so it doesnt settle, And I always Over-Goop it, better too much than not enough, rite.... so installing it will be the easy part, is there any other finiky parts to installation or removal? Any place to buy a brand new windshield cheap? and that damn black urethane has gone up to $9 a tube.....and I always buy 2.........

thats what I get for hauling siding in my T/A

Damn inspection HAD to be due this month...GRRRRR

Re: Broke My friggin windshield !!!!

man i say just eat the 250 and add it to the don't do it or 3rd gen life

1. never tow with a 3rd gen
2. never have more then 4 people in a 3rd gen
3. do not unlatch your T-top when moving in a 3rd gen
4. do not put anything longer then 4 feet in your 3rd gen and try to close the electric rear hatch.
5. and don't carry siding in your 3rd gen

Re: Broke My friggin windshield !!!!

I was just watching a show on the discovery channel I think it was time warp if that's what the show is called. Anyway they were in a junkyard trying to figure out faster ways of dismantling cars and they tried putting explosives inside of the car to blow out the windshield with pressure but the windshield shattered (who saw that coming) but they said in the show they normally just use piano wire and fish it through the interior to the exterior and kind of saw it out. I'm sure it's a whole lot more difficult than what they showed but I'm sure it could be done.

Re: Broke My friggin windshield !!!!

I did the wire trick when I snagged one for my Storm....and broke t\2 in the process......But it was some kind of wire saw that they sell at advance auto......Heat gun might be a good Idea......Ever heard of break fluid melting/eating the windshield glue anyone?

I have never heard of brake fluid dissolving the glue but you could try it out. Also check these out
