Our cars are now 17 to 27 years old. Just curious out of all the cars on this forum how many still have original paint (good condition), original paint (poor condition) and how many have been repainted.

Ill start: My 1988 IROC still has the original paint. 99% of the clear coat is still on the car and in good shape--just a few areas where it has peeled off. No fading either. I consider the paint to be in very good condition.

Original paint as of build. But in 1994, paint begain its slow process of peeling away in typical GM fashion. If i would have known about the recall on the paint back then, I would have taken action but the Chevy dealer who sold me my car a year earlier kept that from me. Talk about poor customer service.

 

Original paint was halfway gone 10 years ago on mine, a Van Nuys built car. I've done two paint jobs on it since. First repaint I got bored with so did a second 2 years ago.

All original except butchered hood painted in 83, still great except for the door dings. Next year its getting all minor defects fixed and repainted.

 

still original here. I have a few bubbles on the roof. I did get the cowl hood painted not too long ago...

 

mostly original on my 85 ta , 64 k miles always garaged . 2 owners and no winters

 

All original Van Nuys on my 85 except for front ground effect and of course the hood.

 

1984 and a daily driver. Original paint. Don't mind the dirty fender wells.

my 86 has been painted at least twice. My 92 is still all origional and in great shape minus a handful of stone chips

 

Mine has all original paint but it was $400. So you should get the idea.

Just bought my first Third Gen, ‘85 T/A. it's a Norwood built car and as far as I can tell has never been repainted - but the paint is dull and the passenger door is oxidized. I'm going to try and see if I can bring it back to looking somewhat presentable. Eventually I plan on getting the whole car painted.

 

Try using the Meguire's Clay Bar kit first, then use Meguiar's 1-2-3 step system(paint cleaner, polish, wax). Now, some will say that the Meguiar's 1-2-3 step system isn't the best product out there....that maybe true...we can argue this all night long! There is always something better out there! The point is that alot of the Meguiar Products can be found found at many stores for fairly cheap. Plus, the 1-2-3 system being liquid, makes it easy to apply! IMO.

I've used it on several different vehicals of different ages.....I'm happy with the end result!

 

Well, it's not that bad.



Sides are perfectly fine but the front and back bumper along with all the hood, roof (Not that there is much with the t-tops.) and deck lid have lost nearly all the clearcoat. Stripes are fine all around though.

It will be a great sleeper on day though.

 

ya i have factory ( never repainted ) sapphire blue on my 87 iroc. thing is the paint is badily faded in the front/rear bumper because the car was sitting outside for over 5years hear in rainy oregon and it was never covered up it was just sitting there for years in front of my house with nothing to protect her not wax not even a cover. it wasnt even washed before the 5 years it probaly was washed about 10 years ago was the last time it was washed since early this year and probaly never was waxed exept this year.

im the son ( 13 ) of the owner of a women that doesnt know how to take care of cars and she's had the car for about 18ish years. but there been pleny of spa's for this car and many wax jobs on her this year and it looks 100x time better then it use to it use to look primer now its 1 of the shinest cars in the neighborhood ( and there is even new bmw's around here )

but ya it looks lot better now still faded in spots but not near as bad and i will be trying to make the front end look a bit better tomorow so i'll get pics of the car by tomorow if i remember. also i only use wax and such by hand i have never used a buffer or anything like that on this car ALL MUSCLE! sorry i just had to state why the car doesnt look the nicest of condition ( of course when you actually see the car).

and just to let you know the car has 27k miles on it and until about 98 it was never driven much and kept in the garage until 2004is when it sat out side and in 2009 it still stays out side but it has a cover and plenty of other protection on it and yes it does run now. before 98 it was driven daily just a couple miles but at home it was garaged and that was from about 93 tell 98. im not sure about before that though it was proprobley and hopefully taken care of if it was garaged or not.

luckil in all that time i do not have any at all clearcoat peeling and its just faded in front clip and the rear bumper and there isnt much of a clear look on part of the hood and in between the rear hatch and the t-tops and on the spoiler deck but they still shine and arent badily faded thankfully. and i minimal dents exept on the hood there is a huge crease but thats why i have the lebra for the dent and the faded paint.

what about the Original Carpet. was installing new aftermarket seats 3 weeks ago. even the mats look this good..always have towels down.. from day one.



still smells new..this car was stored for the last 7 years...now it's getting a few new upgrades
before the dust was knocked off

 

 

red one original paint with dents and scrapes and serious bleaching on the roof. White one original paint except for hood and front bumper (serious stone chips repaired most likely) rest all original in pretty good cond.

During the mid 90's it sat for awhile, but since 99 we have been at 4 Woodward Dreamcruises, 2 Powertours a couple of Thirdgen fest's, lots of cruises and we try to make it to as many of our local muscle car tuesday cruises as we can.....its got roughly 70k roots blown miles on it

 

Original here, 1992. Paint is around Generals but not that bad, Only on top of the fenders and on the heritage stripes and small spots on the doors.

 

All original and still shines!!!

looks like meguiras Professional paste wax to me!

 

Mine was repainted the same color. Good thing too cause the newer is pealing in a few places and its the same color so it blends well. New paint the right way one day.

 

My 84 Z has all its Norwoods factory paint. It was a Carolina car all its life with 6 previous owners till I got it and brought it to NY in 2004. Nice and shiny no fading except the plastic nose and tail pieces are a bit sun baked along with the decal stripes. The gray interior is a bit sunburned also. Typical southern car.

Mine's all original except for the rear bumper, hatch, and around the windshield. Here's a pic that showed what the paint looked like when I bought it and what a good 13 hours worth of wetsanding/compounding/waxing can do:

does it count as "origional" paint if my car was rolled off the showroom floor into a paint booth and still has the 1986 candy apple red in near perfect shape?

its only messed up where some ahole tried to break into the car, and the front gfx from being so low. PO didnt know how to drive a car like this...

 

Had to get mine repainted. Don't think the original paint adapted to the UK climate very well.

Paint is said to be original when i bought mine...but im not 100% sure about that. Regardless I need paint xD

this pic makes the spots look good, looks worse in person. The paint on the roof is really dull also.

Van Nuys paint job here. All origional since 89. Never in snow and never in rain the last 14 years. Probebly not even a cloudy day lol It does need a new wrap around spoiler as its cracked like mad and the typical chips and stuff on the front clip. (Only pic I accually have on my new computer)

 

'89 RS purchased from the 77 yo original owner. He bought it brand new to use as his 'dating car' after a mid-life divorce and only took it out of the garage in nice weather. Had 64K miles and is 100% original and rust-free. Has minor cracking/crazing in the nose paint with typical stone chips here and there.

I got caught out in the rain this summer and I'm pretty sure that was the first time it had ever been wet other than at wash time!

 

Both bumpers and upper half of the car is original... Don't know why someone painted only lower half of the car... It goes for a full re-spray in January.

 

All original on my 1992 Z28 herritage car, but not in good shape at all. Florida saltwater climate has taken its toll on the body. And sitting outside untouched for 6 years doesnt help it either. Its slowly being restored. So one day it will be back to a perfect paint job

The White one has been painted over the original White paint early in it's life by, I suspect a dealer trying to get rid of it at a dealer auction!!

The Blue one has it's original paint, albeit the clear coat is disappearing, and taking the paint with it!!

The Red one has original paint, new paint on repaired areas, and faded paint, and polished through clear coat!!

They could all use a repaint, and will get one sometime in the future, I have a guy lined up, but I need to come up with more money than I have available at this time!!

My car looked beautiful. Was in an accident before I got it and had the left rear repainted but the rest was gorgeous besides it cracking on the right read quarter. Then I took it to a car wash(gone to it many times with other cars).... started wiping it down dry and the paint was rubbing off
