My 15 yr old Sons 85 IROC Z

Hello all,

Pretty new to the sight an wanted to share my 15 yr old Son's new adventure. We got this 1985 IROC Z in October for $1000 and have been slowley getting it ready for spring. Engine is great with no leaks, runs or errors. Shifts well also. A few dings here and there mostley dusty from siting so long. He has devoted allot time cleaning, sanding, priming etc...
I think I'm more excited than he is. I had an 1984Z back in 1987 and loved the car. Thanks for sharing our journey.
The first few are when we first drove it home.

Didn't pull the engine. My son and I took the front off and repainted. Cleaned and reapainted all brackets spent allot of hours scrubbing the whole engine.
I'll post more as time goes on. Hard to work in the -15 wheather.

We plan to maintain the Blue. I'm a qualified painter but, just don't have the space to paint. Besides if I painted the car for him it would take away from "his" project.

thats good iv always liked the blue and hate when everyone goes for black i mean black looks nice if kept clean but the blue looks great if its kept in good condition.

and 95000 miles still aint to bad.

You stole that man! I picked my 2.8 up for $800 and it has a lot of rust taht I had to remove and replace...just cleaning it up it looks great. Glad to see another 15 year old workin on a camaro.

I know how you feel with the -15 weather, it makes it impossible to do anything. The blue is a very nice color too.

No kidding. I shouldn't complain I guess, it's 4 degrees here.

Anyway, you got a GREAT deal on that car and it's looking very sharp. Love the color.

Re: My 15 yr old Sons 85 IROC Z

Congrats! Man, I wish mine looked like that. And like the others said, for $1000??? You stole it! Great deal, great car, and even greater is the fact that you've got your son there with you. I have two sons and we work on our cars from time to time. It sure beats video games! Keep us posted, we need more pics pls? lol

Damnn, I wish my dad helped me get a car and work on it when I was younger. I had to do everythings myself. But, one good thing is that I got all the experiance by doing it myself. I'm 18 now btw

My First car was in about the same condition as his(Only it was a '64 Bug), and until the body was done, my dad wouldn't let me get an engine for it. 30 Years later I can do nothing but thank the man......

You Got a Lucky 15 Year Old! And a nice Camaro!

Re: My 15 yr old Sons 85 IROC Z

The temps have been to cold to get much done. I'm changing out the U-joints this weekend and hope to change the drivers side hinge pin. That dam thing does not want to budge. I put a new battery in her and she fired right up in 16 degree weather. I also hope to get a new turn signal lever housing in.
Take care and thanks for asking

Re: My 15 yr old Sons 85 IROC Z "UPDATE"

Still have to install a few fasteners here and there. The hood is a temp until we get our other one finished. My Son did allot of the color sanding and polishing. Getting new tires this week. Rear brake caliper is leaking a little and the wipers wont shut off but so far has been a fun Father and Son project. Thanks for looking

Looks great! I would have to agree that you stole that car for $1000 especially with the low miles....How does the interior look?

Ill bet it feels good to be back in a 3rd gen after all those years.

Re: My 15 yr old Sons 85 IROC Z

I hope your son drives it with respect. I had a neighbor when I had my 86TA whos dad worked with him to restore a 69 camaro SS/RS with hidaway headlights. British racing green with white stripes. Beauitful car. Even rebuilt the motor from block up with his dad (he was also 15). well the short version is within a week of getting his license his son almost died in it when he took a turn at about 90 and flew in the air and hit a pole. he was ejected and lived.

I didnt think his dad was so bright giving such a car to his son who was a bit immature. oh well. I had a 83 camaro V6 as my 1st car. proved to my dad I was responsible before I got something a little hotter (the TA) and never once got a ticket.

I can only recall being able to drive one car I have got home and it was my 98 Malibu. Everything else (about 10 cars) has had to be trailered

Very nice! paint looks good too, i got mine at 16 and have still not repainted it and im 17 now. It needs it, but yeah, finding one in that condition for a grand was a steal! I paid $2200 for my 87 IROC and it had 178k on it, leaking freeze plug too, but i was able to get it home without a trailer. Good luck to you both with the car.
