door weatherstripping check this out

Has anyone purchased this door weatherstripping? It says it has steel inserts. New premium version with steel inserts. Only $100 for both doors. GM is about 400 for both doors. Don't mind paying for quality and peace of mind but 300 extra, holy cow!

Re: door weatherstripping check this out

I just installed these today on my nephews 84 Z28. I was impressed with the metal inserts on the ends where the screws go. The stripping that I had installed just 3 years ago ( can't remember brand) did not have any. The old stripping kept pulling out of the plastic retainers on bottom of door, the rubber around the holes split. This new molding seemed to have much better plastic retainers as far as the rubber side is concerned. I tried to pull one out but couldn't. But here is my concern. They pushed way to easy into the door for my taste. I'm afraid I will have trouble with them pulling out of the door. The plastic retainer pins have very short ribs on them. They all lined up good with the exception of the very first one on the driver door. It was off about 1/4" and was already pulled quite tight so I opted to just drill a new hole. I tried 1/64" smaller but really had trouble pushing in so I drilled out to original size, 7/32 if memory serves. The rubber is fimer than what I had and doors shut a little harder but maybe that's a good thing so rubber won't split. I guess only time will tell. $115 for both doors. Best price I could find was 370 for GM.

You can buy better clips for $10 tops if it worries you that much. Not that hard to change either, all you need is a pair of pliers.

Re: door weatherstripping check this out

I just posted a ? about this just a minute ago and now I found this. Is this the stripping that starts close the door handle and then travels around/under the door mine is messed up about where the striker latch is right where the sail panel and door meet. on both doors how does that happen?
