Hood Pins

About a year ago i put a 3in fiberglass cowl hood on my '92, looks great but i wanted to add hood pins. Mostly because the stock latch refuses to work properly. The hood is already painted, just wanted to know if i could drill the holes with out damaging the paint.

Re: Hood Pins

yes, tape is a good idea, the blue painters tape works very well. Drill a small hole first to make sure everything is lined properly, then slowly enlarge the hole with progressively larger bits, file as needed

Re: Hood Pins

What to do is, put the posts in for the hood pins. Place something on top of the posts like white out,I used a dab of bearing grease it was the only thing I had in the shop.

Gently place the hood down on top of the posts for the pins, the grease or white out will mark where the pins will poke through. You can place tape on the paint so that it doesn't chip.

Now for the drill part.If you go to Home Depot buy a drill bit that's shaped like a cone, it's tapered and will allow you to start off small and gradually drill the hole bigger as needed.

That's pretty much it,once the holes are drilled place the trim rings on the hood for the holes.

Hope this helps yah,
Tony

Re: Hood Pins

these are the ones i went with, Moroso 39020 - Moroso Chrome Hood Pin Sets. the hood plates are very thin and came alittle beat up from being vac sealed. i was orignaly going to put the locking pins in, but they are not suppose to be used without an orignal style, so i just went with 4 of the normal style. and they look great.

I put the Ford Racing stainless steel ones on my car,but it's a Ford. I'd look for a decent set that's stainless so that they do not rust out on you and look gross after a year or two.

Re: Hood Pins

I ran across these Areocatch hood latches. I think these would be a nice set. They also come in a locking version also.
