Do I need hood pins?

I am going to buy a bolt on 4in cowl hood and was wondering if I need to put in hood pins.

I would serious consider it if your putting on a fiberglass hood. I did for my IROC, and I feel alot safer now.

Hey i actually just picked up a 91 z28 and I just noticed that it has the exact same hood as yours does Americanmouse. When you where going down the road it it look like it lifted up in front and kinda sway back and forth?

What kind did you use?

Way more fiberglassed hoods cars running around without pins, than cars with pins. So I wouldn't worry about it, if you have one from a reputable manufacturer.

I've run them with & with. With pins, was only because my wife wanted pins on her Camaro, not because she needed them.

Re: Do I need hood pins?

My hood is from Hawks, and I noticed when I'm going over 45mph it starts to make a lot of sound air wise that is. So I put the hood pins in to be safe.

I'd install them just to reduce the chances of the following:
-Getting in a car accident
-Causing someone else to get in a car accident
-Having to buy a new windshield
-Having to buy another hood

Yes, you can go without hood pins on a fiberglass hood just like you can drive a car with bald tires. Most of the time you will probably be ok but its a little risky.

That is a 100% unfair comparison. As I said above....There are WAY, WAY, WAY more fiberglass hood cars running (rarely see a fiberglass hooded truck with pins, unless it is a "race" truck, or wants to be) around perfectly fine without hood pins, than with hood pins.

Bald tires are automatically unsafe on anything but a good paved road. Add any gravel or water & you very much risk an off-road excursion.
