Finally got my car painted. Looks good for all the bad maaco rumors.

I have been driving around with my multi colored car for awhile now and just got some money. Being only 17, i don't have that much to money to spare. So i went by the maaco on Milwaukee near palwakee airport. And i know everyone says macco IS CRAP but to my suprisement it turned out really well. It was only $650 Here are some pictures

not every maaco job is a horrid disaster. just dont be upset if it starts to look worse as time goes on. you do get exactly what you pay for in painting on autos. the people who get upset over maaco paint jobs are the ones that are expecting a 10k$ paint job for 700$...

Looks great and I went the same route you did as well. Granted mine isnt that clean and I did all the body and prep work myself but hey you dont hear me complaining for the $500 I spent! I love your color looks great! Looks like your in the same boat I am in and need some flashy wheels on that baby! Heres a pic of mine as well for reference.

Re: Finally got my car painted. Looks good for all the bad maaco rumors.

Years ago Car Craft did an article where they took their project car to Maaco.

Most of those shops can lay the paint on pretty well--If you do good prep work for them and take off everything that will come off easily you end up with a very good paint job for the money.

Re: Finally got my car painted. Looks good for all the bad maaco rumors.

Looks pretty good. I've been considering going this route. I'm not too worried about them messing my car up, because I'll let them know in advance that if my stuff gets messed up, they won't hear the end of it. If they do mess it up, I'll give them so much hell I'll be able to afford a proper professional paint job.

Is that a one step enamel or base coat/clear coat?

Looks pretty good. You did the right thing by prepping it yourself.

Looks pretty damn good! Now what did you do to paint it other than sanding? Did you take the random pieces off? like mirrors, door handles, lights, gfx, etc.

Yeah, I'm curious as well. Did you or MAACO do any disassembly of the car?

Re: Finally got my car painted. Looks good for all the bad maaco rumors.

Anyone can learn to shoot paint. It really isn't that hard with a little practice. What makes or breaks paint jobs is the prep work and the quality of the materials. This is where Maaco usually falters. I've had a couple of third gens with Maaco paint jobs and they don't last. The typical life expectancy of their paint jobs is really only about 3 years or so.

Re: Finally got my car painted. Looks good for all the bad maaco rumors.

I agree, you picked a very nice color. It turned out great!!! The first thing I said to myself as soon as I seen the pictures was: "Either he or somebody else did some really good prep work on the car before they laid down the paint".

I had my 69 Chevelle painted Black at Maaco in 1998. My body guy did all the prep work and my buddy who painted there did a phenominal job laying down the color. I paid Maaco 500 bucks, and then I slipped my buddy another $200 for 5 additional coats of clear. Brought it home, wet sanded it, then my body guy flamed it for another $400.

Once again, your car turned out great. Keep that puppy waxed and it should last you the full 4 years.

Looks great man! now thats is one nice red/orange! i would suspect that it should stay nice looking for quite a while if you keep her cleaned and waxed. now all she needs is some tire shine, polished wheels, and the lights cleaned up and she'll really pop!
