Hatch glass

Did all third gens come with the rear hatch glass defroster?
Being here in this part of Canada, I would assume that all models destined here would have it. The Virginia Sport Coupe I purchased a couple of years ago also has one.
How about the southern cars?

Re: Hatch glass

no they did not all have rear defrost . it was an option , i suppose it had to do with the area the car was sold in . i'm sure the rear wiper was also an area option . good luck .

Re: Hatch glass

My IROC has about every option known to man (5.7 litre, T-Tops, 16 inch alloy wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, Performance rear axle, PW, PDL etc etc) BUT does NOT have the rear defrost oddly enough.

Re: Hatch glass

Definitely not. My 91 T/A has many options, but rear defrost is not one of them, which I think is dumb. Not looking forward to scraping ice off the rear window every time I drive in the winter if I ever get it running (yes we get ice on the windows every morning here in Georgia too). Never understood why someone would not get rear defrost.

Re: Hatch glass

In as much as it may irritate some of my fellow 3rd gen friends, the only reason I'm inquiring is that I'm considering adding a dark limousine tint to the rear glass (just the rear, not the sides). Not sure of the overall look, however I do know that tint applied over the defroster grid oftens looks terrible after a while.
Some say tint died in the 80's. I always thought it looks pretty good in the right circumstances.

Re: Hatch glass

I have rear defroster, doesn't work lol. So I might try to figure out something to do with the switch... Don't really need it here in texas.

Carlos,,, sup man. When I lived in CO, I had a big problem with the 40 degree nights only to snow early in at midnight. Then when I would wake up, there would be a layer of clear ice under the snow. I dont have a rear defroster. My IROC is the base non-powered model. Sucks.

Re: Hatch glass

Yea it sucks, I removed the switch due to electrical issues and well I learned the hard way about it last winter, I used a paint remover spatula for the job. I might rewire it just for peace of mind but I doubt I will drive the Cam this winter.
