just picked up a notchback

I am so happy I just bought a 1984 firebird with a NOTCHBACK!!! I am pretty sure its not stock,I KNOW they didn't come on 84s and its not Hawks so where did it come from?

I have pics and I know that it has a plexiglass window and a bracket to bolt on the struts. To put this on will I need lighter or heavier struts? the notch back feels heavier then the stock glass

it also had shims

Re: just picked up a notchback

That looks like a C&C "notchback".

Re: just picked up a notchback

a "C&C notchback"? any more info on that? did anyone make aftermarket notchbacks before 88? the car also had custom T-tops, that somebody said could have been C&C also the car is and 84 firebird more info would be greatly appreciated but there is no C&C label anywhere on the car

Re: just picked up a notchback

No sorry, i used to have some mid 80 mags that featured 2-4 page ads.Mostly for the t-tops/notchback & woodgrain kits, but i misplaced them long ago.C&C never labeled the cars with any badges or decals.I think C&C made "notchbacks"/t-tops before 88.My 84 has the t-tops, which do have a little logo on the outer corners, but thats it.

Re: just picked up a notchback

so it's very possible the this 1984 Firebird had this "nothback" from the dealer?

Re: just picked up a notchback

I dont think C&C products were dealer installed.C&C had their own shops/dealers that did the work.I would've thought the notchback would be labeled somewhere.Ive seen pics of some & yours looks alot like it.

Re: just picked up a notchback

there is an outline of what MAY have been a sticker a LONG time ago on the notchback and there is a tag on the door seal that says "Scholfield BROS" and some info, are theses people that did the T-tops and notchback?

I also have a tag on the door that says "this car altered by [unreadable]..."

I thought that was just for the T-tops but, it is a hell of a coincidence that it has C&C T-tops AND C&C notchback and it not have it done at the same time
and the inside of the notchback is blue like the interior

but I thought GM came up with the notchback idea for the firebirds in 88, Guess not

so deductive reasoning must mean that somone had C&C put T-tops and a notchback on an 84 firebird in 1984 so this is a pretty rare car.

too bad its getting crushed monday

Re: just picked up a notchback

I think the C&C dealers were local independent shops from the area.So who did the conversions varied by region. My car has no tags/stickers or any badge denoting where/who did the conversion.I do know the C&C t-top cars were orginally delivered as hardtop to dealers.then either from there or after the owners took dleivery the cars were modified.
Maybe GM decided to offer the notchback to take a bite from the aftermarket option. After all hurst even offered t-tops for the f-body before GM did.
I remember reading somewhere long ago that hurst later became C&C or C&C emerged from the hurst line of accessories or something to that effect.Since hurst was orginally more of a performance aftermarket business.
