Need advice on a notchback

Someone local to me is a selling a notchback that I'm going to go look at tomorrow. From the pictues I've seen of it I think its an ACC style? That could be way off, but its not a hawks for sure.. He was asking 200, but I'm working him down.

Here is what it looks like

looks good, I'd go for it. I've always got my eyes on craigslist hoping to find one around here for a decent price. $200 is definitely not bad, anything less would be a steal!

Re: Need advice on a notchback

It's an aftermarket one. If it was one of the converted ones from the dealership, it will have a VIN on the left inside near the tail of the notchback. Additionally, from the dealership, it will have a "wishbone" or rib down the center. The sails are fatter than the original ones, which had a thinner side area. I have 2 of the wishbone ones and one aftermarket one that I found in a junkyard for just under 20 bones. $200 is a little steep.

you're a lucky man Jim, I'd love one of the factory ones; never was a fan of the lambo-like aftermarket ones with the long sides. I never see them around here in new england

Re: Need advice on a notchback

I am concerned though now how much room is under it. Specifically between it at the diff/gas tank hump in the trunk area. I have a fuel cell enclosure that sticks up about 4 or 5 inches about that and tapers into the storage area of the trunk. I'm concerned about the notchback hitting the lid. Someone said it stick down to where the OE factory cargo shade went, but I have never seen one of those.

I talked him down to 125.. I might just include that there must be a 24 hour fit guarantee or something. What do you guys think?
My current hatch sticks out the back a teeny bit, but I'm maxed out of hinge adjustment. At least I can port the holes on the fiberglass.

Do you have a pic of the dealership one and maybe a pic of one installed?

Re: Need advice on a notchback

Does anyone on here have a retrofitted notchback on here that has made the struts work? I know the mounts have to move down, and that the struts are different. Where do you find these other struts?

Re: Need advice on a notchback

Check this thread. I have a few pics there. The glass or notchbacks never fit exactly. They all have to be massaged into place.

Re: Need advice on a notchback

my advice, leave it there the hatch looks better, that's just my opinion but I would do something for a fit guarantee, it's always hard to tell with aftermarket stuff good luck.

Re: Need advice on a notchback

Jim, what do you mean by "converted ones from the dealership"?

The Notchback (atleast the original) was a factory option, with it's own RPO code, produced by a company called Auto Fab and installed at the assembly line in Van Nuys before the dealership.
