Battery tray

Hey guys, I want to repaint my battery tray and the area next to it. The tray itself is starting to rust, and the area next to it has paint flaking off. I was wondering if there was a way to remove it so I can paint the whole thing top and bottom? I was wondering too wtf that ball thing with the line coming out of it was that dropped down when I removed the screws on the front of the battery tray.. Thanks guys!

Re: Battery tray

The ball thing is a vacuum reservoir. Gives your heater control and cruise control (on some models) a place to draw vacuum from when the engine vacuum is low.

As far as I know the battery tray is welded on so removing it would be a problem. But you could drill out the spot welds and break it loose to remove it if whats underneath really warants going thru that much work. But then the process of welding it back on would undo much of the paintwork you did. Not impossible but ... difficult.

Re: Battery tray

Thank you for replying! I actually just cleaned off as much rust as I could, primed over the remaining rust, and painted it. It turned out really good! Its weird because my car is rust free, but the battery holder, and the bracket under the air filter were covered in surface rust and looked terrible. Now that they are nice and black again, my engine bay looks new! I did have a hell of a time trying to mount that vacuum ball back by myself.. thanks again!
