Hanging Ground Effects on 91 Z28

Is there a proper way to hang the ground effects on a 91 Z28? I had to replace the front right fender. I have the brackets in the right place, but I'm having issues getting the ground effects to stay in place. Any ideas?

Also, I need to change the bottom molding on the door. I have the two nuts off, but I'm not sure how the molding is held in place and I don't want to distroy it. Any ideas on this one?

Thanks.

Re: Hanging Ground Effects on 91 Z28

I just pulled the GFX off my car for painting and I decided to leave the ones on the doors attached because I noticed mine were riveted on and I wasn't about to drill all those out. But if you open the door and look at the door from underneath, you will see what I'm talking about.
As for the other GFX that touches the front fender I'm not sure if your talking about the chin spoiler or the one that runs down the side of the car, but the one down the side is held on by screws from underneath the car and from the top side of the bottom of the doorjam (if that makes sense). Also it has two thin aluminum brackets, one front one back. The front bracket I removed the bottom of the inner fender to access the two speed nuts and the speed nut on the rear bracket is accessed from inside the car. Remove the rear plastics beside the rear seats and a hole is covered by some factory sound deadener and you will see the speed nut. Spin the speed nuts off and take the screws out and there you go. Hope this helps.

Yes, that's very helpful. It looks like I'm going to have to fight with those rivets. The door I found for the car was of an 86 and the trim on the bottom of the door is not the same. I didn't see any rivets on the bottom of the door though. Are they inside behind the door panel?

I did a 91-92 gfx swap on my 87 IROC a few years ago. The side rockers are held on with plastic studs that go through the fender in the front (2 IIRC) and 1 in the back as well as all the screws along the underside and on the door sill.

As for the door pieces themselves... I think there are 5 studs that go through the door. You have to remove the door panel and make sure your window is UP and you'll see them. The weren't too bad as I recall. No need to drill ANYTHING.

The plastic studs use those 'self threading' nuts - Can't remember the exact name.

[edit]SPEED NUTS! Here's a pic of what they'll look like... again: DON'T DRILL!

i agree with dante there is no need to drill anything. I have a 91 and have removed all the gfx and it all unbolts...not sure what these rivots are you guys are talking about but there should not be any its all held in with 5 bolts through the bottom of the door. 2 you can see on either end of the door and the rest you see when you removed the door panel.. all 10mm if i remember correctly...

DO NOT DRILL ANYTHING!! take the door panal off and put the window up there are 4-5 studs that go through the door and are held on with speed nuts. There is also 1 nut on each end of the door. Shouldt take but a few minutes to remove.

Re: Hanging Ground Effects on 91 Z28

Well then I stand corrected. When I removed my GFX I didn't see the speednuts on the inside of the door and didn't remove the ones connected t the door. When I saw the rivits along the bottom edge of the door I just figured those were what held them onand looked no further. Thanks for setting me straight guys.
