Why can't you get them back on? What is stopping you?

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

yeah, there pretty straight forward. Hatch is heavier than hell but straight forward nonetheless...

maybe you need to compress the struts to where the mounts are?
more info needed...

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

You'll need to lift the hatch up, and install the struts at their extended length

If you're trying to compress the struts and install them from inside the vehicle with the hatch closed... Well maybe it's possible, but you're more of a man than me then.

If that's not the problem, not sure how to help you

+1 to a friend or someone else holding the hatch while you put the struts on, or vise versa.

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

well the rear hatch weighs like 100 lbs....that being said, what the guys above me said, or if you absolutely have to install them at less than full extension, maybe some plastic zip ties? I seem to recall that shocks for other things sometimes come with zip ties on them to make them shorter for packing and or installing...

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

i proped my hatch up as far as it will go and the struts are still about 1inch short of fitting.the only way i can compress them is when i took one one off just to see if i could push it in and i had to put a small board on one end and leaned on it with my chest.even then i only got it to go in maybe 2in just for a second.i have them attached to the torx bolts and was trying to get them to fit in the the hatch slots.am i doing it the wrong way?.thank you for all the input

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

Get a friend to hold it up higher. It goes plenty high for them to be fully extended.

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

They kind of push onto a part that sticks out a little bit, I put mine on by myself, it's pretty easy.

Re: hatch struts drive me nuts

I don't think you could crack the glass from lifting it too far...worst that would hapen is you would tweak the hinges, but you would feel know if you went too far.
