Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
its alright but out of all of the spoilers i must say i like the Hawk's Thirdgen 5" Spoiler.
-
-
Sadly I own an 88 so i can't use it unless i replace hatch to a 86 or 91/92 w/ the 3rd brakelight. Or i find a way to customize the 5" and fit a 3rd light into it

God I love the 91-92 spoiler so much - which has been problematic when I am shopping for a new third gen. I find iroc after iroc which I dearly love, but just can't bring myself to pull the trigger unless its a 91-92 z28 with a silly, gigantic and gaudy factory spoiler on it. It's a hard life. I would love to have a iroc with the hawks spoiler shown above along with my 92 Z and its obtrusive spoiler - but until I can afford both, it is all 92Z love here.

tbh I'm surprised no1 ever tried to customize the 5" Spoiler to hold a 3rd brake light. I can't imagine it being that hard.

The spoiler is what sold me on the car as a kid. However, I hear mixed opinions on it ALL THE TIME. It really is a love or hate thing.

Depends on the car, it looks the best when accompanied with a raised aftermarket hood (or vice versa).

i may be a little biased but i love it!
I think with the 4" cowl, it looks PERFECT from the side, as compared to my buddies red thirdgen with just the 3 piece regular spoiler and a 3" cowl

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
I like the 3 piece better. But I would love to have a hawks 5" spoiler. Or if possible one like a first gen or early second gen that doesnt wrap around but hangs over the top of the rear quarters.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
personally I think it looks somewhat *****, so far I haven't seen a spoiler that's perfect in my opinion. I do think the 91-92 Z28 spoiler is aggressive looking but for some reason it just doesn't fit my style. However I don't think the stock 3 piece spoiler is very aggressive looking but I like that it does look functional even though it probably provides no downforce at all. I also think the 5 inch spoiler from hawks is to big and gaudy and looks to much like a 2nd gen and that's not really my style either. Personally I wish someone would make a 2.5" or 3" spoiler I think that would be perfect. But back to your original question the 91-92 Z28 spoiler is my least favorite.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
The 91-92 ars always remind me of a last ditch boy racer refresh GM did to try and move some units of the aged bodystyle...by 91-92, everyone who wanted a thirdgen probably had one.
Don't get me wrong I like the cars but the refresh seems like a bit of an afterthought. I'm biased though.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
i have one on my car . do i like it ? not really . i prefer the regular type spoiler . that is just appearence wise . also with the 3rd brake on the inside of the hatch & the spoiler both limit rear vision a bit . this is not my first 3rd gen. . counting 2 parts cars i have owned 5 3rd gen camaros . just my thoughts . no i do not want to trade/swap , my paint is a year old and looks good . good luck to all .

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
The main reason I like it it because it signifies the 91-92 Z28's. Sure, people can install onto any 82-92 fbody.....but I've always love the more aggressive styling with the 91-92 Z28's....they look different out of every 3rd gen made. There were just a few things that set apart the RS's, IROC's, and Z28's through the 82-90 appearance. (Wheels, Decals, Hood)
When they came out with the 91 Z28.....you knew it was coming.....because of the newly designed highrise spoiler

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
I love the 91-92 spoilers, I just don't like how it makes the taillights looks from the side. I would absolutely love some kinda of odd Dovetail spoiler mixed with a high rise.
But the 5inch hawks is number 1, with the exception of that one off spoiler a guy on here made that resembled the 5 inch, but had a slight curl to it and just looked better all around, made hawks look like an unfinished product (no offense)
the 91-92 grows on people though, I hate them in pictures, like them a little more in person, Whereas the earlier spoilers look good no matter what.

I have always loved the 91-92 Z spoilers. From the rear it looks like it means business. However, I wouldn't put it on an IROC because it is not year correct. It belongs on 91-92 Z's or even RS.

I have a couple of the '88 Camaro spoilers. The problem with those is that the inside stand-offs can become brittle and disintegrate over time.

Of course I love the highrise spoiler, its the same one my rs is rocking and its like the only car I've seen in my city that has it. Plus it goes really well with the updated body style.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
I picked up what could possibly be the perfect in between. I'm not sure if I'll use it to replace the 3 piece on my 91 but its a firebird spoiler w/ a third brake light. I mocked it up and it looked fairly good. It has a little bit of height to it and the brake light and it hangs over the side a little bit which I like the look of. I'll try to get a pic up soon.

im gonna stick out from the crowd and say sometimes. it all depends how the car is setup as a whole. sometimes it looks gaudy and out of place, other times it looks damn near perfect like it was meant to sit there. all in all id like to think gm made a selection of spoilers for us to play around with even though they probably didnt

While it might look a little better if it was about an inch lower, I gotta say it is still one of the best looking spoilers on any car out there.
I've always wondered if it only for looks or if GM intended for it to be functional at all. Think I'll post on the history forum and see if anyone knows....

I like it if it was without the 2 center supports. I know they are probably needed, but I think for me it would look better without.
I will also say what has been said before; It looks better on a car with a cowl hood.
I love the 3 piece on my 89RS with the third brakelight built in, IMO It flows with the car perfectly.(check SIG)

I am a big fan of the spoiler as well. I think it gives it that distinct look.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
I like that it has the 3rd brake light built into it.
I do like the 91/92 high rise too, but what I don't like about it is. How it overlaps the hatch lid when it's closed. It makes it look like the spoiler was too wide for the car.
I've got both spoilers in the shed, trying to decide what to go with when I get the car painted.

Re: Poll: Do you like the 1991-92 Camaro Z28 Spoiler?
That minispoiler is hideous. It looks exactly like what it is, a cheap imitation spoiler meant to look worse than the performance model's spoiler but zazz up a terrible commuter car. They would look fantastic if they extended all the way out to the edge of the decklid, but they only stay on the hatch which makes them look extremely out of place.
The 91-92 z28 spoiler looks great but only on a full 91-92 car setup. With IROC ground fx and louvers or even a cowl i think they look really odd. It's just become ingrained to me that the high rise spoiler is part of that 91-92 z28 package an that's the only thing that it looks right with. I know a bunch of guys who for some reason think it only looks good with cowls but I dont understand or agree with that at all. Cowls look almost universally terrible on these cars with a few exceptions that are tolerable. I see them as a function over form item.

Funny this thread came back up. Holy 4 year thread rezurrection Batman!
I was trying to think how the 91-92Z spoiler would look with the little RS spoiler underneath it. In my head it looks pretty cool. But the Z spoiler would have to sit like normal, maybe with the RS spoiler notched for the Z spoiler supports, or vice-versa.
Might look better under the hawks highrise spoiler though.
