I was just wondering if anyone ever replaced the orange part of their tail lights befrore? i was thinking that the tail lights would look better if the orange part was red, like the brake lamp part.

or if not, do u think it would b hard to make it match the brake lamp part???

Been done quite a few times on this board, I have done it twice actually. What you do is seperate the lens from the housing and use a paint that you can get from a craft store. The paint is called: Candy Apple Red, and it is made by Testors.

What he said, but is that pic before the red was sprayed on? Still looks very Amber to me. I've seen much better amber to red paint jobs, if it is an After pic.



I did it to my Clear Reverse lenses on my GTA. Of course, that is only visible when lit.

 

It depends on the angle that you look at them. The Amber section isn't painted from the factory, the plastic itself is that amber color, and you can still see the hue of it from the sides. If that pic was taken dead-on than it would look like your pic.

 

I did mine with PPG sunset red candy... they are red from all angles.

I also used this paint to tint the front fendor indicator lights red as well.

 

Some people paint the inside, then 1 light coat on the outside to "kill" any remaining amber showing.

I borrowed a can from a buddy, because Wal Mart no longer carried it, couldn't find it at the hobby stores & I only needed to do 1 set of lights when I converted my clear Reverse lenses to red..

 

What type of paint did u use?

Also I wanted to tint my tail lights after I paint the orange turn signals red. Just a little but tho. What paint did u guys use to tint just a little bit darker?. I also induced to tint my turn signals in the front fender black too.

 

Did u paint the inside it out side? And did u sand it, and use a clear coat??? Lol sorry for the 21 questions. I just really wanna do that myself

Not my car, I have a 87 GTA. Those are my lights you asked about above. Ask BigBadLou. I'm not sure if he did the inside, outside, or both.
