so much undercoating............help

well it seems that someone went overboard with the undercoating and its every where. Its extremely tough Ive tried wire wheel, kerosene, torch and scraper (best so far)....

Is there anythign else I can try I hear everyone say kerosene works great but ive sprayed it down a few times and let it soak for hours and nothing its just as tough as before, Ive tried melting with a torch which works but then i hear people do that and then wipe whats left with kerosene. Thats not working it isnt taking any of it off.

Is there anything else I can try it took me 8 hours to do one wheel well and that not the whole thing. ALso tried a needle scaler which worked really well on parts that where super dried up.

Is there anyway to dry it out? or something else I can try stronger then kerosene.

i know this is a pain in the a$$ job but it seems like everyone else its alittle better then this.

Is it regular undercoating, or did someone put bedliner on it?

Re: so much undercoating............help

I've got a stripe eraser that accepts a wire wheel that is pretty good for that. But like james said, if it's bedliner, the only thing I've found to do with that stuff is chisel it off.

It could be a cheap spray one, they are less textured to be able to come out of a rattle can nozzle.

^^^ He's not kidding. That stuff will eat anything it touches.

Usually I use a propane torch and something to scrape the undercoating off. Oxy/actyl works too. Either way it's no fun job. Becarfull of whats behind the area your heating...don't want to set the car on fire.

Re: so much undercoating............help

If your trying to get the stuff in the wheel wells out, it's not the same as the coating under the car. It's hard, thick stuff. I used a chisel and small hammer and just went to town and slowly chipped piece by piece away till it was gone. Sometimes you get lucky and a huge piece chips off but you won't get rid of it with just kerosene. Patience is key with wheel wells!

I've heard the same thing but with the Q-pads on floors. Someone on the net claimed to loose 30 pounds or so in his car.
