88 iroc z28 ugliest hood ever!

My hood is a supposed "custom" fiberglas hood with the biggest ugly hood scoop ever! So I bought a new stock one but it's gonna hit the air cleaner
Can I cut a hole and put a small nice looking scoop on it? Will it be pretty tricky considering the louvre's?

No reason you can't cut a hood to put a scoop on, but ya got any pics of this custom hood you had first?

Nice hood on that black IROC. I see you live in Missouri, so do I.

BTW, I'm looking to trade my stock 88 hood with louvers for a 2" cowl hood in good shape that is black or red/maroon.

Depending on how much interference you're experiencing, a drop base air cleaner might be the ticket.

Re: 88 iroc z28 ugliest hood ever!

Probably not........

You might want to cut a flat hood like that black IROC above. An IROC hood might look a little weird with a scoop over the louvers.

I have found flat hoods are a dime a dozen

I saved my good iroc hood and bought a flat one for like 50 bucks. Very well worth it I think. If you get a bolt on cowl, just measure so you get it square on the hood. It takes a little time, but it gets the job done for a lot less money than a brand new hood

Thanks for the compliments guys

Re: 88 iroc z28 ugliest hood ever!

well a cowl increased my power because I was able to run a bigger air cleaner that sticks up into the hood and suck more air in. which when I first did it I felt a power gain over the stock setup for sure. could any open element do that? possibly. but i like to think since a little over 1/3 of my air cleaner stick up into my cowl I get a little bit cooler air than having a stock hood.

Re: 88 iroc z28 ugliest hood ever!

I wouldnt cut up a nice IROC hood. If your hood is in good shape, try posting on your local regional board for trade+cash for a flat hood. You will probably wind up with enough cash to buy the scoop you want AND paint it. Fair price is usually around $200-$300 depending on condition and where you live. You could also try craigslist....
