Better chance of getting a reply if you post in your Regional Board, so that people around you can help you.

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

Typically affordable and paint jobs do not go hand in hand. When a client comes in asking what it costs to paint a car I tell them a typical paint job is anywhere between $1,000 and $35,000.

There are so many variables with paint work its almost ridiculous. You will ask 6 different people what a good paint job is, and you will get 6 different answers. And everyone will claim they are right.

Best thing to do for paint work is figure out what you want to spend and what you are willing to spend. What you really are expecting out of the car. There is a difference in the amount of prep time from one paint job to another.

Finding a painter is like finding a good doctor, when you find one, stick with them. Us painters are a super sick breed. We all have our own styles, we all have our own quirks, however most of us take real pride in what we do.

Good luck

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

Well, I just got my camaro painted black for 2500 bucks. I told him to fix the rust on the t-tops and he fill it in with body filler. The car has about 30% orange peel, the rear bumper bodywork was ****, there about 3 runs and taped everything off and didn't pull off the emblems which I told him to take off....

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

and that's why I'm not afraid to paint my own car. I may not be perfect, but I'm sure not going to PAY somebody to mess it up

I've painted three cars with metallic lacquer and survived. If I can do that, BC/CC should be easy

A quality base/clear coat ran me 1,500.00 materials/paint/weatherstripping and 1,500.00 in prep/spray and that's from a friend/pro-painter/shop.Out the door for 3,000.00.I would say that's average for a professional base/clear with the best PPG has to offer.

Who did all of the tear down and body work?? If your friend did all of the tear down, bodywork, masking, and painting, and buffing for $1500 you got a smoking deal.

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

I think I'm going to Maaco either this summer or next, so I really want to see your pics. Did you do a lot of the prep work or did you just give it to them as is. I will probably fix the rust and prep the body myself then take it to maaco.

I always liked the look of 2 tone paints on camaros. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like camaros can have a lot of stripes and stuff done on them and still look good. Going with orange or green on the bottom and a black top (hood, windows up, rear hatch) would look killer.

I helped were I could but he did most of it. We worked on it at the shop for hours and hours after he got off work each day and had it out in under three weeks.

I was going to ask you if your were going to upgrade your wheels, and then I saw a new set in your album, they will look great!

The car looks great, you should be really proud.

any overspray problems like Maaco is famous (or infamous) for?

yeah i got another set of those old rally wheels...i missed them, they got some over spray on my tailpipe, airdamn, and tire but they started using some kind of chemical on the tailpipe when i pointed it out then asked if i just wanted the system repainted so they did it black, they also resprayed my airdamn black so it looks good now and my tire where they got alittle red on it

Wow! I can't believe it turned out that nice with you just dropping it off as is. Sounds like you have a good maaco by you. I know a lot of people say Maaco does little to no body work at all.

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

I just talked to a guy at macco the other day and he said in the spring they're gonna be running a deal where they'll paint your car for half price ($199) and a $120 dollar prep package which includes taking off the clear coat and masking off anything you don't want painted. Pretty killer deal if you ask me!!

Re: affordable paint shops PLEASE READ!!!

that's odd, the presidential paint isn't supposed to include a clear at all... it's just a better quality single stage enamel.

I was looking at clear coat jobs, andaccording to thier website I would have to have gotten the $1000 Signature line job to get clear

honestly, if I didn't have metallic paint, I wouldn't worry about clear.

you're fine without it, honestly. Three coats is enough that you can do some polishing as the years go by and it will still look good

my pleasure!

Don't be down if you don't have clear. the way some clear coats degredate and delaminate over the years, your car will probably look better longer without it
