Weld on cowl
Hey everybody! I've been searching for a 3" weld on cowl for my Camaro with no luck. I've seen a few mods where people just cut flat hoods and made cowl hoods out of them, but I think that's a bit over my welding ability. Does anybody know a place that sells them? I can find fiberglass ones all day, but it seems harder to find metal ones. Thanks in advanced!

Re: Weld on cowl
I wonder why that is...From what I've been reading is that glass scoops on a steel hood generally have cracking in the filler shortly after it's done. Is this true, or are those people just bad at body work? You'd think a weld on cowl would make sense, it would be a lot cheaper than a whole new hood...

Re: Weld on cowl
i would think welding a piece of steel that large would probably warp the hood, and require a lot more time and money to finish properly than a new steel cowl hood would cost or a 'glass one. Your still going to have to use filler on the hood after welding since you will never get the metal perfectly flat and formed after welding/grinding.
as for fiberglassing to a steel hood, it will crack eventually since the hood does flex when its opened and shut.

Goodmark is the only maker of steel hoods, that I know of.

If your just looking for an add-on scoop piece, I found a 2 1/4" one.

BUT in more searching, I found this place that sells 3" ones.

Hmm...You make valid points. I guess I have to start looking for a whole hood then. I'd hate to put a fiberglass scoop on and then waste money painting the car if it's just going to crack and have to be fixed. Thanks for the info!

Re: Weld on cowl
Im assuming fiberglass cowl on a fiber glass hood would hold up a lot better? either way after seeing the price of some of tho's scopes, a ture cowl hood sounds like the best way to go...
thanks for posting this thread, i've been playing around with the idea of getting a hood off of cl for 50 bucks or so and trying this... guess ill just take that 50 bucks and put it to a new hood...

Re: Weld on cowl
This is what Im after. Because I live in the UK, getting an all steel hood, is very very expensive, due to the shipping and all the added taxes.
