restoring a low mileage 86 black iroc and need to know if the headlight buckets are the same black as the rest of the car (shiny).. or did they come in a satin or flat finish ?

i believe the flat black was actually a decal. i know my 86 Z28 we bought new had the flat black- but body color was maroon. not sure if they applied the flat black to an already black car. personally i would leave it gloss black paint unless you're entering some kinda concours show where it would make that much difference.

I have an RS - I painted the buckets (well, my painter did). Mine is semi-shiny I guess you'd say. It's definitely not flat. Maybe not as per factory, but it looks damn good!

 

I just did my buckets last year. I used Gm trim black, and it looks real good. The trim black is closer to a flat black than gloss black.

The thread posted above should have the info you need. The buckets were a satin finish, not flat, not super glossy. My front end has never been painted and only has 15k miles so the finish on mine is as it came from the factory. See pic below:

 

I have a original black/gold iroc, The headlight buckets are definitely not the same as the car. They look a bit like flat black but that could be the age of the paint, They probably started off satin as scott said.

 

I just wanted to comment that I had a 4th gen that had gloss back headlight buckets (the rest of the car was also black) and I thought it looked stupid when the lights were on because they would reflect the headlights maybe it's not a big deal to most people but it really annoyed me.
