hatch problem 92 rs

My hatch on my camaro is sitting about a quarter to half inch too far back, you can tell by looking at the top of the glass and the middle of the spoiler. Im confussed as how this is possible because its bolted to the car in the correct places. I was thinking it might be off an older model but im under the impression that they're interchangable. Ill try and post pics later if they're needed but I really can't figure this one out

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

The only adjustment for the hatch is with the bolts that hold it to the car - did you try adjusting it some?

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

i loosened them on one side and tried to push it forward but nothing happened, do you think maybe if I did that on both sides it would? Seemed like the holes were just straight thru and didn't have room to give

I'm having the same problem with mine. I was told there is a way to adjust it, but I have no idea how!

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

Adjustment is in the glass to hatch bolts. GM urethaned the two together but after years of pressure from the lift supports, they come loose. Search glass replacement for the hatch.

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

To hide it a bit you could move the two outer spoiler pieces. Won't truly make it right but might be better.

Correct.
A GM service manual shows how they are put together and how to fix this very common problem

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

Wow its been 5 months since I posted this and I still haven't done anything with it! My how time got away from me... Its even more noticeable with my hawks spoiler... I will have my paint done by christmas tho so this will be fixed first...but I believe my problem is not glass to hatch however, since the glass seems to far from the roof line, but I could not get it to budge when I tried to adjust the hindges. I did alot of research and yeah apparently this happens to EVERYBODYS cars on the glass to hatch and only takes like an afternoon to fix, so ill get around to trying that eventually

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

I'm confused still. I mean, how does adjusting the glass to hatch push the hatch closer to the roofline?!?!

It doesn't but these cars had a wide gap up there anyway. If you really want to, some on here have done, is enlarge the holes in the body where the glass hinges bolt. Personally I wouldn't, the panel is angled so that moving the hatch forward in this manner will raise the glass away from the weatherstrip, also make that area of the body weaker allowing the hinges to flex. There is some adjustment in the hinge to glass mounting bolts. Be careful with those, you may not be able to get them loose without damaging something.

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

The glass to hinge holes on my TA don't seem to be slotted to allow for any kind of adjustment. The hatch sits about 1/2 inch too far back. Are the slots on the hinge?

Re: hatch problem 92 rs

I had to notch the square mounting hole on the roof panel even after installing a new used set of hinges to get mine close. There is no adjustment from the factory as far as hinge to body. I discovered my old hinges actually bowed out from lift shock pressure over the years.

Two guys pushing the hatch forward while you tighten the nuts on the inside helps too.
