IROC Headlight Black
I am sure that someone has asked this question before, but I must not be putting in the Search the correct words. But, I am restoring a 1985 IROC, and on the front bumper cover in front of the headlights there is an area that is painted black (silver car). Is this a gloss or semi-gloss black, and is there a paint code for this black area? I am too close to having this car finished, I don't want someone to come up to the car and say "well you painted that section the wrong color".
Thanks,
Joe

Re: IROC Headlight Black
Well I can't find anything about a paint code for that, but I'm going to assume they used the same paint for that area as the paint used on an all black car. I'd like to hear the answer from someone who knows out of curiosity though.

Re: IROC Headlight Black
The paint is a satin black or semi gloss, not high gloss. On a black car, the headlight buckets do not reflect the same as the rest of the car.

Good to see someone else painting the headlight buckets black again after a resto
Third gens look terrible IMO without black headlight buckets.

Thanks, you guys are the best. Semi-Gloss is what my IROC will be.

Re: IROC Headlight Black
The headlight buckets weren't painted from the factory...they were just the natural Urethane color. I use 'back to black' on mine to keep them black.

Re: IROC Headlight Black
Interesting....I don't have enough ammo to argue it...
I swore my GM nose cone I bought a few years ago was black....
I use back to black on it and it sure looks plasticy...but maybe its years of abuse!
Whenever I repaint mine, I plan on making it black. I think it looks hokey one color!

I'm interested in nowing what thecolor is so I can match mine. My buckets need a new paint job someday. So does the whole car!

Re: IROC Headlight Black
Satin...or if I had to throw out a wild *** guess.
New Black was a color that was used on the T-tops and a lot of GM cars for a satin-ish color in the 80s. I bought a can of 'new black' or 'nu-black' in the late 90s are early 2000s and did the trim on my t-tops with it. It looks great to this day.
Come to think of it...BEFORE I painted it, it was kind of a shiny color...almost polished like the headlight buckets. The Nu-black is a very satin-esque black color. I'd be willing to put money on that being the right color.

Re: IROC Headlight Black
just did a google and it doesn't show up anywhere. May look at Advanced Auto Parts and see if they still carry it. It was used well into the 90s and is probably used to black out trim to this day.

Re: IROC Headlight Black
Just a satin black. i think that some look better w/o. Like my car with it having the black hood the black buckets would not look right at all. IMO. But if I had a red hood like the rest of my car then the buckets would be black.
