Daytona cowl induction hood / Iroc turbo cowl hood?

Hi there, long time reader of these forums and am also on Camaro5.
I recently aquired my dream car back in Jan., a 1987 IROC-Z 5.7L. T-Tops and power everything. it's a work in progress of course, but runs strong.
prior to even getting the car I knew I wanted this hood for it (Primarily for looks): http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d5...ngSS/hood1.jpg
my dilemma is, however, I have no clue what it's proper name is, I was recently reading tid bits about cowl induction hoods and read the names "Daytona cowl induction hood" as well as "Iroc turbo cowl hood"
3 things I'm curious about:
what's it's accurate name?
where might I acquire it?
and - the holes in the side of it, are they to allow Hot air Out of the engine compartment?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Re: Daytona cowl induction hood / Iroc turbo cowl hood?

You could order a new one here for instance:

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ho...omponents.aspx

It is described as Camaro 82-92 IROC Turbo Hood on their site.
In these forums it is often referred to as Daytona turbo hood.

I guess the main reason for that is that there is a, somewhat rarely seen, twin turbo hood for the Camaro as well, so referring to this one as Daytona hood prevents confusion.

The holes on the side are by default closed. They are just indentures when you buy the hood.

Opening them up would provide heat extraction.
With a proper cowl induction setup (air filter box) youŽd have an interesting hood on the car, and I do agree these hoods look good on our cars

thank you for the information!

Do you know if it is possible to cut and make the holes on the side functional without sacrificing the structural integrity of the hood itself?...

Question: Hawks Iroc Turbo Hood - if I select "No do not add hood louvers with hardware" will it be delivered to me like the image below, Minus the plastic louvers? - and I could just swap mine in?...or will it be flat on top of the cowl induction?

It will look like mine in my sig pic, idk if it uses the same louvers that the factory cars came with though, something you would have to ask the people at hawks.

Yes, you can swap the factory louvers in.
Selecting the louvers adds the partnumber for the factory louvers to the order.

I ordered mine from hawks. It takes a few weeks to get it an shipping is high, but your buying a hood which isn't a small package. I cut the holes on mine, and put in a mesh where the holes are. There is a space in the hood where you can put the iroc louvers which I assume you have.

Also another thing is it comes with a 1" lip on the front for shipping strength. You can file that off of there for a cleaner look.

2nd hand hood ftw :P Mine already had the holes cut, and mesh installed, and one of the POs, probably the original, also had some custom fab work done on it, has these recessed triangles at the front, then I further modified the hood but completely removing the substructure and making it into a true pin on hood. It's not as rigid, but as long as I'm careful with it its still sturdy enough.
Eventually I might get a CF bolt on hood, pin on is nice when you're doing a lot of underhood work, but the rest of the time its an annoying PITA, esp with how large the hoods are on camaros......

Much as I hate to say it though, the odds of finding one 2nd hand aren't good, truthfully I wasn't even looking for this style hood when I found it, was planning to get a factory glass IROC-Z, but then this one cropped up uber cheap.(paid like $70, had some damage though, which I fixed)
