Well said hips. Comparing apples to apples, I don't think you'd find many "high end" shops solely using glue to shave door handles.

Got mines done similar to the way most people get them done. Metal plate welded in, welds grinded clean and bodyworked! Purchased a 60 pound door popper kit from electric life, excellent quality kit!! Check my pics.. Body guy was a pain in my *** but his work was excellent.

IMO a welded metal plate is the best way to go, way more solid and anchored.
Nothing like hitting railroad tracks @ 50-60 mph and have a huge piece of bondo fall the f Off

Well, I kept my handles, didn't want to have to rely on another mechanism to open them.
Saw a guy at a show one time, battery died, could not open doors, could not pop hood, because he could not open doors!

That would just suck.! Always have an emergency release somewhere on the car.
Sorry to say...
I wouldn't be able to help the Guy because I would be too busy laughing my *** off.

Depending on the kind of car you have that can definitley be true. but the sweet thing about our cars is that they are hatchbacks, so thats never an issue. unless you shave your rear hatch lock.

I'd rather take the chance of being cold, rather than a passenger ( usually female ) or myself picking glass out of the a s s.

Re: Shaved my handles using 3M panel bond
actually my plan is to put a lead from the battery positive terminal under the front bumper so i can power the electrical system to unlock a door if the battery goes dead.id love to have a pushbutton entry panel from a ford grafted on to control the doors.

One year later and no cracks! Even after climate changes and repeated door slamming. Bring it!

Re: Shaved my handles using 3M panel bond
I am not a shaved door handle fan like I use to be, but to each his own. IMO for the way this work was done it does not look bad. I did not want to paint my truck just to have it sit outside, drive it in the winter and get scrached up again so I fixed a few dings with bondo OMG! sanded a few small bubbles, preped the body work right and painted it with Monstaliner-a roll on bedliner-that's right I paintd my truck with rollers and in some sponts a brush and texture spong. Alot of people told me I was going to ruin the truck, but now that it's done and looks killer everyone loves it. Sometimes if you don't have to have 100% perfect there is nothing wrong with taking a differant path.

Re: Shaved my handles using 3M panel bond
well that looks good even after a year has past, I just read this thread and those guys went way to far they where bashing you, And there is no reason to go on and on like they did, And there are a few like hips that really doesn't know anything, Someone needs to point him to chevy corvette and the dodge viper, they clue the floor pan to the frame no welding or or any thing else but glue and its 3m bonding agent .
You did a very good job, I think those haters should be warned about their trashing you and your work,
