Rust in spare tire area
Working on an 86Z. Took out the interior and found alot of rust and weak metal in the spare tire are and then under the rear glove box. Mosst of this is underneath and the rest is behind the ground effects. However on the spare tire side, the support iis rust almost comletely off. Am planning to grind or cut out the weak metal. Any hint or helps?
Gas tank is in the area, am planning to drop that before I cut anything. Am thinking just weling a small piece of angle to the support and then to the floor? Or does someone make a good patch for this? I am sure this one isn't the only one rusted out here!

Re: Rust in spare tire area
I had some rust but it hadn't rusted through. I just sanded it out and rustoleum'd the whole area.
It's not a visible area, so I think you're safe with welding in the angled piece. Hell, you could then prime and paint the inside pink if you wanted to and nobody would know any better :-)
