just how bad was panel fit from the factory?
hey guys
getting my '90 GTA ready for paint and recently took the front apart to coat the innards with some POR15.
Anyway, the front end alignment always bugged me and armed with some shims and a long weekend, I promised myself I was going get the front end perfect panel alignment wise.
Well its a mess. The hood wants to twist to line up with the fenders and I'm pulling one fender out as far as it'll go and the other in. The nosecone is seriously stressed just finding the bolt holes! Aligning the headlights with the fenders there's a massive gap between the bonnet on the passengers side and the lamp door is touching the bonnet on the drivers side!
I'm going to let the paint guy take care of it but just wanted some expert views. Are these cars a bit random with regard to panel fit/ alignment or is more likely my car has got a somewhat interesting past
If people could post pics of the front end of their T/As I would be most grateful

thanks for the reply
I'm unsure. It's certainly had the front end apart before (could tell by some missing bolts)
I attach some pics for reference. The clean pic shows the car as it was before I took it apart. Looks pretty ok but check the 'align' pic and hopefully my markings show just how far back the passenger headlight is.
It's as if the whole front is slightly twisted
thoughts welcome

Check with a tape measure corner to opposite corner and see if the front end is square. Pic a spot on the cowl and then go to the opposite corner of the radiator support, do the same on the opposite corners. They should match, also look for welds on the core support and fender aprons, that is a sure sign someone has been in there.
