Can someone tell me what the the special aero wing spoilers available on the Formulas,Trans ams and GTA's in 1991-1992 were made of?

I am assuming they were fiberglass,but wasnt sure as I know Pontiac used urethane spoilers that cracked and warped on their past Formulas and Trans ams.

they are a hard plastic, 2 pc, not sure what exact type of plastic though

 

Wow! I sure hope they used a better grade of plastic than they used for the door mounted cup holders!

I can't imagine a plastic spoiler holding up to well.

 

they did quite well really. You find some that have warped and seperated though. I picked one up a year or so ago, even the right color! And its still kicking.

The base firebird spoiler is made of fiberglass,at least the top part anyway.

That's good to know the areo wings hold up fairly well though.I would like to find one.

I think the worst thing on the 1991-1992 Firebirds quality wise were the areo ground effects pieces.
Every car I see that had those has broken sections.
Thankfully the Formula cars didn't get those body pieces.

 

the 91-92 wrap wing is fiberglass for the most part but unfortunately the parts that attach to the deck lid are actually plastic parts that are glued to the fiberglass main section. Makes them much harder to repair than if they were all fiberglass. Still a lot more durable than the foam rubber 86-90 wing. The clips that attach to the window frame on the arms are much better as well on the 91-92. Too bad its a little goofy looking, but so are the rest of the GFX pieces on the 91-92, so I guess it fits.

 

I guess I got one of the bad spoilers then....mine was cracked all the way through in about 10 different places when I got the car. Oh, and as far as the rest of the ground effects...passenger's door piece had a 4 inch hole in it, and the passenger's front fender piece was missing completely. Nice.

Knew it had to be plastic, no way fiberglass could crack as bad as mine was.
