Looking to get 88 3rd Gen painted

Looking for alittle advice, steps and tips for repainting an 88 3rd gen. I compounded the car out about three times and the paint came out significantly better. It looks great actually. However, there are some scratches that are down to the primer on the driver side and the hood has several nicks in the paint from what appears to be rocks or debris that hit the hood. I'm great with my hands but i need to get familiar with the hardware used for preping cars (Striping paint, sanding, different types of wet sanding and dry sanding papers to use, filling chips, ect.) The vehicle was painted once before and I don't completely like the fact that there are some remnants of the old paint.
