88 gta taillights
Ok so I have a 88 firebird formula and i found a pair of 88 gta taillights for 80 dollars in good condition. How hard is it to do the wiring? Should I even get the taillights? I think they look better and one of my taillights is cracked.
Re: 88 gta taillights
The best thing to do is get the harness with the lights. It's an easy job if you can get a matching harness. If the seller doesn't have it we can probably help you with one. It's a lot easier to splice in a Trans Am tail light harness than it is to make your existing harness work.

T/A taillights are a big upgrade over the base lights IMO...you can probably find them cheaper though, I ended up getting just $25 for a set I had a few years ago.
Re: 88 gta taillights
I used my factory Formula harness, Changed the turn signal socket to a flat 3 wire socket, and wired the turn signal bulb to come on with the tail lights, as well as flash when signalling.
All in All it took maybe 15-20 mins.
Re: 88 gta taillights
Neither way is really hard but considering Formula lights use six sockets per light and two different styles and Trans Am lights use four sockets that are all the same it only makes sense it would be easiest to start with the correct harness.

when and if you change over to the GTA tail lights, you can get the sequential turn signals too, i put them on my 87 and i love them. theyre neat and just one of those little things that sets a car apart from others...IMO
