nose and rear bumper

So I've always hated the black bumpers on the front and rear of my Formula. I would like to have smooth front and rear like a TA. I was wondering if l used a 85-90 TA nose without the ground effects would it work? Would that TA nose have the same shape as my nose minus the bumpers and front end ground effect... Not sure how hacked up the TA nose would be after removing the ground effect. As for the back end cover I was thinking of using a 91-92 Formula bumper or 85-90 TA rear bumper minus the ground effect, what do you guys think and has anyone done this?

Re: nose and rear bumper

Ok, so I'm hearing the ground effects don't come off the 85-90 TA nose. So now I'm looking into a 91-92 Formula nose. From what I've found in a search I see is need the nose and support as well as replacing my head lights with 91-92s... I have two questions???
1. Will my 89 hood work with 91-92 nose???
2. Will my 89. Fenders work with 91-92 nose????

Re: nose and rear bumper

In addition to the bumper cover, you also need the actual metal bumper, impact absorber, parking lights/ turn signals, and grills as all that is 91/92 specific.

I read that the head light trim from my 89 won't work with the 91-92 nose?

Re: nose and rear bumper

Honestly the easiest way to make the inserts disappear is to grab another set and paint them body color.
It was easy 4 me. my car is painted black.

the 91 formy rear bumper will fit with the correct plastic absorber. not sure if they changed the metal support.
the 92 front bumper will bolt right on with the correct metal support(?) and plastic impact absorber but the park light harness needs modded unless you get a complete front light harness.
The 91-2 also uses smaller headlights, diff buckets, lids and plastic bezels.
If you leave your 89 lights on they may or maynot work with the 91 bumper. I don't know.

I have a bone stock '91 Formula sitting in the garage, I'm actually taking it down to Queens this weekend (crossbay blvd area) if you need to compare anything with yours...

Thanks guys, I'm just starting to get parts together. Just made my mind up to do this yesterday. Still need to find all the parts.

Re: nose and rear bumper

So I might have found a 91-92 Formula nose/front bumper cover. I am now wondering about the head lights. I'm not sure if my current 89 head lights will work with the 91-92 nose? I see the trim around the lamp of the head light assembly looks different..So do I need new head light assemblies or just the trims around the lamps or will my current setup work as is with the 91-92 nose???? Thanks

edit.... Just ran some masking tape along where the new body line would be using the 91-92 hood. I then opened the head light manually, the trim at on the head lamp would hit the hood and need to be cut back, also the bottom 3/4" of the lamp itself would be below the top of the new nose line... not a real big deal but I'm still debating the head light issue.. Might be possible to use my head light assembly and just change the trim and lamp out to the 91-92.

Re: nose and rear bumper

just swap out from the headlight hing up and you'll have what you need.

And wow on the bumper cover. nice work!
