i was browsing on the interweb a while ago out of boredom and upon typing in "third gen" i stumbled across thess and was curious about them.



any ideas what im looking at?

 

the nicest station wagon. someone took the time to make a custom hatch for their firebird

 

i kinda actually like it because its different and its a more ballsy station wagon than you see riding around haha. i know my cousin used to have this 93 taurus station wagon with a mustang 5.0 in it but thats all engine conversion

 

Pontiac actually made these. They made the original concept in 79 or 78 but it didn't take off. In 85 the brought it back with a GTA wagon, I believe the concept car still goes to gm shows or is im a musuem. They also made one for the 2000 Trans Am.

 

I could be wrong but by judging the plates that actually may be pontiacs gta wagon at a show. I can't remember what it looked like I only saw the second gen and read about the others (earlier this morning honestly, what a weird coincidence lol) but the 2nd gen had the hood bird and everything lol

 

kinda funny the red 1 its a fake wrong year the third gen the 3rd gen cammback is an 85 the red cammback is reported to be 86 doesnt have the right rims wrong 3rd brake light but it is a really nice car

 

It's pretty awesome, i mean really it's just the hatch that is different, right? Car looks the same. Looks way better than the Notch-back's.

Do your search for "Kammback" & you'll get lots of results on those concept cars. I've always wanted to build a hatch like that for my car.

Concept cars Don't always have the "correct" production parts on them.
They usually start as a car pulled off the line, modified for the application and car show duty then updated for the next few model years.
Thats Y they are called a "concept".
I've seen all of them inperson except the blue an silver TA which Id bet, is what the red GTA kamm back car was born from. Which Ive seen it red not blue.
I think the 78-9 Kammback had a twin in black if my memory serves me correctly.. But Im thinkn it was crushed??

 

Yep. The first black concept GTA built by Lou Wassel made out of a 85 TA pics have Lou standing in front of the fender vents to hide that.

 

I love those cars, and would drive one every day if I could.

 

The common term for these concept cars is Kammback. Not sure where the term came from.

 

Well I do know that gms actually kammbacks were called the gta kammbacks

 

Are there companies that produce these hatches for our cars?

 

I googled it too and came up with a lot of cars I didn't know had station wagon options/concepts

1st gen rustang
1st, 2nd, 3rd gen corvette
2nd, 3rd, 4th gen firebird/ta
and one guy made a challenger station wagon in germany

 

Nope. Only the Prototypes were ever built. There is a thread here on TGO about a guy cutting off the back/top of a Pinto (iirc) & grafting it onto a 3rd gen, but it looks like crap.
