Re: how does it look?
The idea isn't bad but the execution is abysmal. The paint looks terrible. Yet another "I got bored so I rattlecanned my car...but don't worry, it's not permanent." thread. Epic.

Re: how does it look?
actually ill be sanding it with 600 grit to even it out then clearing it..i forgot to mention that in the pics the paint wasnt totally dry..it looks a lot better today. not all of us can spend the thousands on a new paint job..i will be doing it myself down the road after i get the equipment with actual automotive paint. i know this stuff wont last.

I wasn't a fan at first seeing the pic for the first time in your other thread, but now, it doesn't look to bad. If it were me, I'd do the roof, hatch lid, and pillars black too. I've had a few eclipses and talons and they have that kind of color scheme. I will be one of the few to say, it looks good man!!

The point of the link was that if you did a crappy paint job, keep it to yourself. You're bringing the whole community down by posting crap like that. If some outsider were to venture onto this site they would think we were all a bunch of toothless rednecks.

Re: how does it look?
I think in order to make an informed reply to the original question of "how does it look" we would need to know how it looked before the paint job. Depending on your intended usage of the vehicle it may be the perfect choice of paint and application. If you lived in the inner city or traveled a lot of dirt roads then why spend too much time and resources on something that is almost guarranteed to be backed into or involved in a hailstorm of stones. Hopefully any developing rust issues have been delayed for a little while while you save for something else.
I'd suggest tuning it to be a strong runner. You know what looks worse than budget paint job????? Losing!!!
Have a good day
Edit: I just realized that the first pic was a before. I thought it was in the prep stages bc you could almost see through the paint. At least thats what it looks like on my 7 yr old monitor. I think it is an improvement. And I'm no paint expert but i Have had some cheap work done on a work van of mine. The fella who did it did a single basecoat no clear but it ran over in a spot. He wet sanded it and it looked amazing after. Didn't take him too long on that spot either. Maybe 15 mins? Spend a few hours going over your and I'm sure it will bring the shine out.

Re: how does it look?
it did look like crap before..the PO had done some shotty bodywork that i fixed and they had used spray paint on those spots..i didnt have the money yet to paint so i just primed and sealed the primer (which accounts for the look of primer comin thru) and called it good for the time being.. but it looked hill billy so believe me its a big improvement, i get to try out my paint scheme (still a work in progress) plus im getting some practice in color sanding and wetsanding..im putting the paint on basically the best way possible to make it last the longest and i think the final product will be pretty good (not as good i know) just not as durable obviously. I did all this with the practice aspect in mind. i may do the rear trunk section in black..but i dont feel like messin with the roof right now. ive also started fabbing a 2nd gen spoiler on a side note..but moving in a couple weeks to another state so that will probably be a while now.
mannn it takes some patience going this route..i gotta give the paint time to cure (or close to) in between each coat and after color sanding, then of course fixing mistakes and having to start over on the waiting game.

Re: how does it look?
yes thanks for the pearls of wisdom..i understand that this is a common themed idea, and that its sacreligous to do anything other than a top quality paint job for our holy cars, but tho i love my car it is still just a car. And yes i do know how to paint a car the right way, and WILL do so, regardless of what you may assume i will do. i say what i mean and mean what i say. i know the people are not used to that in general, so i understand the link and the frustration with people not taking care of these cars. but really there is so much more to life than our cars, if theres not you have problems. that being said, i will reiterate, i WILL paint this car the right way when its available, i have the know how and desire, its just a question of time. the whole idea of adding extra cost and work when i go to do the real thing seems a bit silly to me because i have no problem doing the work..its really not that hard and ive done it before..there are much tougher things in life than an extra few hours of sanding. no more links to supposed wisdom please. thats not what this thread is about. have a nice day.
And I completely agree with you.Car looks cool. I like the way you carried it onto the nose.

You wanted opinions, and you got them. I think your thread title says it all.
'How does it look?'
If you can't handle criticism, don't come seeking opinions.

You have my admiration for being nice. Primer bleed through, mismatched ground effect colors, and louvers that look like they've been sprayed with a hopper gun doesn't look good and I hope you know that. Remember, he asked and momma always said it's good to tell the truth. He knows it isn't the correct way, yet he intends to put good money after bad and clear it as well. Brilliant decisions abound. Hard to feel sorry for him.

Nobody called you an idiot, those are your words. Please don't get upset with the responses when the title of your thread is "How does it look?".
If you really want to refinish your car, save your money and buy better materials. If you're inexperienced with painting, practice on something else, a road sign, filing cabinet, anything . Ask for advice from somebody with gray hair, buy a video, but whatever you do, don't waste the $400+ in good paint materials if you don't know how to apply it. Same goes for prep. You indicated that you're good at prep work. If you are, then do the correct prep work and take it to Maaco to save a few dollars.

Great advice.........................
Re: how does it look?
excellent retort. lets start at the beginning..primer bleed through..yes in the 1st pic there was some..but really not bleed through...it was a weak coat of paint over it to protect from moisture..there is no primer bleed through after that 1st pic though. mismatched gfx..ok also 1st pic, which had the old 84 chin spoiler on it..i got white on it to visualize a particular idea, and the spoiler was replaced. ALSO..the louvres came textured..i just added paint to them and they look 100% better, brand new in fact..lastly, ive spent about 40 dollars TOTAL on this to look better than before. i really dont think MONEY should be brought into the equation. but thanks again for the choice to call me an idiot. appreciate it.
i did the same to my car and im extremely happy with how it came out get nothin but thumbs up (even from ford guys)

everyone knows my car is a slow v6 so do i but im happy if i let people like him get tome about anything i do to my cars i probably wouldnt be into cars.

For instance instead of tearing you down, people could have just said, spray can is only temp fix so expect with enough sun exposure and weather to run into a few issues in the near future. And that would be helpful.
Or, make sure you prep the area with a good sand or at least red scuff pad, probably need a etching primer and make sure when you spray the primer and base to use fat/wet coats for the best adhesion and durability. This won't make it look perfect but it will help it last longer until you can get to a point you can go further with a gun job when and if you see fit.
Or, that scheme is really cool, I haven't seen the nose broken up with color scheme like that and it gives me ideas for my own car so thanks for the idea
This post also led to the pic of the red and black concept car that made me say "I wish I could find a nose like that" Just enjoy your car and do what you want with it. People can flame the crap out of me, I really don't care. You have shown your true colors haps, puma, 82tarecaro. Maybe you guys should start a new board that only people with cars you approve of can join.

Don't sweat these guys man. They are evidently not going to swayed. Opinions are like.... everyone has one. There is a reason I have been a member for 10 years and have a low post count. I get so tired of posts like these, where a guy is trying to do something to improve his car just a little and people tear them down. I mean if it was three different colors and had rust showing people would be b*tching at you too. Same thing with the constant "Do a search" crap. Either help or shut up. This board has alot of information and alot of smart, helpful people. Trash like this doesn't help. One thing I have found about hobbies is people are people. About half are pessimistic aholes that have a fascist agenda on how they want the hobby to be and everyone to abide by it and the other half are decent guys willing to help.

Re: how does it look?
I've seen MUCH worse rattlecan jobs
Done a few myself. A few for laughs, a few to cover rust, etc.
Just to make yourself feel better, here's a low-res picture of my old 84 Subaru GL "The Rusty Cow"
Yes, this was one for laughs. I still crack up every time I look at it.

Re: how does it look?
I have been in the paint and body business for over 25 years so my opinion will be ugly, thats why I will keep it to myself. My biggest issue is that you used a rattle can which is going to suck for you when you do decide to repaint it the correct way. That crap clogs sandpaper and is a mess to remove. I just wish people would buy a cheap spray gun and use automotive primmer (Epoxy if possible) insted, even if you do one panel at a time due to cost. Prep is the key to any paint job, cheap or show-quality.
