i have an 88 formula with the wrap around wing on it. its pretty beat up and torn in places (thats how it came when i bought it about 6 months ago) and i was wondering if replacing it with a trans am wing would be easy. would the bolt holes match up? if not would i need to weld the previous holes shut etc etc etc.

 

The bolt holes would not line up. The wrap around holes would need to be welded shut, if you're going to do it the right way.

its all yours if you want it but its not in good shape by any means. its cracked in places, torn, and theres places that would need filled in. ill upload pics tmrw if you wanna see what im talking about. the reason i asked if i could put a t/a wing on it is because the current wing needs replaced and i like the t/a look better.

 

The wrap around also uses clips on the hatch glass that it hooks on to, so those will hafta come off & the glass metal trim edge touched up.

Wow im glad i found this tread... I was going to put the older style wing like i had on my 85 Trans am on my 91 as my wing is TRASHED (wrap around looks like this one posted below)

Glad i didnt go ahead and buy the new one as i dont want to deal with welding... I guess its back to doing fiberglass work... and i hate doing that...

yeah, it stinks the different spoilers use different mounting points. i'm dealing with a similar issue - 87 wrap around has pretty much rotted inside out. will be changing to something different soon

You don't want mine.. unless you like fiberglass work.. its cracked down the center... top busted off on the right tip.. bottom busted off on lower left side... about 12 hrs worth of fiberglass work.. to repair it and strengthen it correctly.

 

Couldn't we just change out the deck lid to change over wing styles? I Havnt dug into mine yet so im still clueless on how it even bolts up.. I got my TA with the wing already off.
